One of the logistical hurdles of getting supplies into the hands of blanket creators has been cleared in Carlisle, PA. Carlisle residents can now simply open the bin of the game table between the Gilded Door Pantry and Create-A-Palooza located at the addresses 9 and 11 East High St. and use the handle on the store side to open the bin to drop off supplies. The bin will be emptied periodically, and the yarn will be moved to the cupboard on the right side of the Gilded Door Pantry vestibule, for pickup.
We encourage other Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project problem solvers to share similar solutions to the supply and demand issues of blanket making by finding and sharing on your state's Facebook page. You can also support the project by sharing or donating to our gofundme page by clicking the link below.

Have You Seen the Little Piggies
|

The little piggies of North Carolina show the other state's Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project Facebook groups how it is done. "These Little Piggies Are Homeless" e vents were held throughout the state, including this event at Transformation Village shelter in Ashville. Families were invited to paint their children’s feet and print them onto fabric squares that will become one of the quilts to be displayed on December 21. You can read about or watch WLOS ABC 13's coverage of the Ashville event below. What creative actions can we feature from you or your state in our next newsletter? If you have a great idea you want to share with your friends at the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project, use the contact us button below to share your story!

Although the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project was conceived for the United States and its territories, we are excited that the UK's Simply Knitting magazine has informed us that they will be including a story about us in issue 287 of their magazine on sale September 14. Designed to put the best patterns for you, your family, and your home at your fingertips with every issue, the magazine is a go-to resource for knitters worldwide. If you have been keeping an eye on the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project newsroom, you will have seen the wonderful Sentinel article and WHTM 27 or Fox 43 news reports about Carlisle's Summer Program for Youth. Campers in the program spent Monday morning drawing their stories onto squares of cotton fabric donated by Vicar David Hoth of First United Church of Christ. The squares will be joined together to form one of the quilts to be displayed at the Capitol Lawn on December 21st. If you missed any of these stories, you can use the links below to catch up on the news.

Blankets Go Back to School
|
|
As we reported in previous newsletters, Maire Trombley, a fifth-grade teacher at Wentworth School in Maine, created a class project designed to help her students better understand the challenges of the unhoused while simultaneously showing them the practical applications of mathematics. Now, we ask you to share the love with schools in your neighborhoods. As this new school year begins, we know there are service projects and extra-curricular service groups that would benefit greatly from the opportunity to assist in our blanket project. Please get in touch with staff at your local school and encourage them to pass this request on to their students. Even better, if you successfully bring a teacher or school into the project, share the news to your state's Facebook page ( found here), the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project Facebook page, AND the Charles Bruce Foundation Facebook page, and you could win some sweet merch (Books, t-shirts, comic books, or framed artwork) from the CBF Square Site. You can even share Maire Trombley's lesson plan with teachers by clicking the download link below.

The big blanket display on the Capitol Lawn is quickly approaching, and we want you to help with the hype. As Tik Tok and other social media video platforms have shown, people love taking a few seconds of their day to admire cute content. We want to ask you to make your own video of your Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project. As an incentive, we are even having a Tik Tok competition! To enter, simply post your entry to your state's Facebook page ( found here), the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project Facebook page, AND the Charles Bruce Foundation Facebook page. Entries will be featured on the new Social Media Video Shares page of the HRBP website, and the winner will get a choice of merch (Books, t-shirts, comic books, or framed artwork) from the CBF Square Site. To offer you a little inspiration, view this special YouTube video highlighting the "These Little Piggies Are Homeless" event held in Ashville, NC.

Did you know September is national sewing month? In honor of this occasion, if you come up with a GREAT idea to commemorate sewing September that generates the most blankets and/or media coverage for www.memorialblanket.org, Priscilla author, Pat LaMarche, will come to your house and cook dinner for you - anywhere in North America. To enter, you should submit ideas you have executed along with the outcome from that idea. In other words, send us what you did (examples: I went to a local school and pitched Maire's quilt idea or I called my local news station and told them about a knitting group at the library working on #memorialblanket) and the outcome of that action (Examples: students made 6 quilts or this is a news story done about the #memorialblanket). A little incentive to keep those yummy ideas coming!
