Memorial Blankets

SEPA Synod

7241 Germantown Ave

Philadelphia, PA 19119

Blankets arriving at this address will be lovingly cared for by our good friends at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod in Philadelphia, then added to the display at Independence Hall on December 21st.

For our local friends, we have additional requests and drop-off directions:

Memorial Blanket collection in Carlisle begins NEXT WEEK! We need to compile a list of volunteers to accept donations. We’re looking for two volunteers per day from 3:30 to 5:30 pm, December 10–20. Use the "Contact Us" button below to send us an email with your preferred dates.

If you have blankets to drop off in Carlisle, bring them to one of these lovely volunteers at the Santa House on the Square in Carlisle, PA, between 3:30 and 5:30 pm during the 11 days of collection. (Yes, we only get 11 days—unlike those pear tree folks!).

If, for some reason, you insist on having a 12th day of blanket drop-off, you’ll need to bring your blankets with you to the #memorialblanket event at Independence Hall in Philadelphia on December 21st. Bonus: that likely means you’re visiting the display!

Which brings us to our final request: We’re ordering a bus for Philadelphia on December 21st, thanks to a generous grant arranged by the lovely Lutherans who head up this project, Matthew Best and Marsha Fuller Roscoe. If you’d like a seat on the bus, let us know ASAP. We need to compile a list. DM us at our Facebook group with your phone number and email address or use the "Contact Us" button below to email us, please.

Crochet, Knit, Quilt...Weave?

For some, one hook, two needles, or a sewing machine just isn’t enough. Crafters like Donna Mentzer demand the power of the loom! Unfortunately, she couldn’t weave wide enough to make blankets—until she did.

For #memorialblanket, she wove on two layers! She had to get on the floor and use a mirror to weave the bottom.

Now that is a labor of love and genius. Some perfect stranger in desperate need is truly going to benefit from her handiwork.

Made as if it’s 1776, this creation will fit in perfectly at Independence Hall on December 21. You won’t want to miss it!

Twofer Tuesdays

On Tuesday, November 26, #memorialblanket successfully raised $500 to help cover the costs of transporting blankets and volunteers to Philadelphia on December 21. It’s heartening to receive both funds and handmade blankets from our generous supporters.

Tomorrow is officially Giving Tuesday! Maybe we can make it a Tuesday Twofer. Use the button below to contribute to this year’s efforts.
