December 2024 News

Beginning Tomorrow!

Blanket Collection Begins Tuesday, December 10!

That's tomorrow! Drop-off will run daily through December 20.

In a surprising start to the event, a generous soul, trying to get a drop (no pun intended) on the schedule, left some handmade quilts this past Friday. Unfortunately, the Santa house was unattended at the time. Thankfully, local superhero Phil George came to the rescue! The quilts are safe and will be featured in the display on the 21st.

Important Reminder:

Please drop off blankets at the Carlisle town square only between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM, December 10–20.

If you need to make alternate arrangements, email us at epicjourney10@gmail.com, and we’ll gladly accommodate.

Red for Ed and Virginia's Sake

Yes, Virginia—there will be red blankets for #memorialblanket this year!

A million thanks to all the red square makers—and to Jane Nighbert, who will be assembling them. (Thank you, Jane!)

Luckily, Jane and Rick will join us on the bus ride the morning of the 21st as we head into Philly to create our display—her lightning fast fingers can assemble the squares on the ride over!

Red Blankets are a powerful reminder that the education of children and youth experiencing homelessness is too important to overlook. It’s something that must be guaranteed! And thanks to some red-loving folks, the blankets are going to look amazing and excite those red-loving among the unhoused!

Special thanks to Sonia Pitzi—the creator of Pennsylvania's Red Shirt Day—and her mother-in-law, Pat, who devoted so much time to this project.

Get on the Bus

Are you signed up for the fun bus to Philadelphia for Saturday’s trip to Independence National Park to help with #memorialblanket? If not, please let us know you’ll be joining us on the bus that day.

The bus departs at 7:00 AM from the front of Create-a-Palooza on East High Street in Carlisle. We’ll have you back home—warm and feeling wonderful about your day—by 9:00 PM that evening.

There are a few details about how you can help in the graphic to the right. And if you have any clean tarps, we’d love to borrow them!
