Get Me to The Capitol Ontime

No doubt, many of you will want to be with us to admire the craftsmanship of the blankets, and we want to help you get there as easily and safely as possible. You could even avoid the challenge of mailing your blanket by hand- delivering it when you visit! With that in mind, we have added a "Getting to the Blanket" page to the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project website. This page contains important guidance for navigating private or public transportation options to Washington DC. Whether you are joining the bus from Carlisle or making the trek on your own, this page has the information you need now, and it will be updated with other helpful hints as we approach December 21. Use the button below to go directly to this new webpage.

In the past, the Charles Bruce Foundation has published coloring books available at no cost in the Carlisle area at the book store and other local retailers. This year's coloring book takes on a special dual-role since the theme of the book is the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project. Even more exciting is that if you are in attendance at the December 21st event at the Capitol Lawn, you may be able to get your own free copy to color. You can use the button below to go directly to our new webpage with all the details about the coloring book. You will even find new printable pages from the book posted every Sunday between now and December 21st if you just can't wait to engage with your inner artist.

Reports of the work of the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project just keep pouring in. This time, it is from AFRO News, the Black media authority. As stated on their official website, "John H. Murphy, Sr., a former enslaved man founded the AFRO in 1892 with $200 from his wife, Martha Howard Murphy. Together they created a platform to offer images and stories of hope to advance their community. The AFRO provides readers with good news about the Black community not otherwise found." What an honor to be recognized by this esteemed publication! You can use the AFRO News button below to read the story, or use the HRBP Media button to see a full collection of stories about the project collected so far.

Twitter may have undergone a big change of leadership recently, but the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project thinks it is a good time to bring something good to the platform. Earlier this month, our new Twitter page was established to share breaking news about the project. You can use the button below to visit our new Twitter page, or better yet, take a peak at everything that is available in our official website using the HRBP Website button. As you can see in the newsletter, we recently added new pages to keep you informed about blanket drop-off locations, transportation directions to DC, and coloring books. Visits to the website between newsletter releases is another great way for you to say informed.

Since the bus from Carlisle to Washington DC is a major focal point of this year's Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project journey, it only makes sense that Carlisle should serve as a collection point for many of the blankets making the trip. Central Pennsylvania artisans, bring your blankets there! If you would like to aid in the collection effort, we have been offered the opportunity to collect blankets at the Santa house any time between Dec 10th thru 20th from 3:30 to 5:30 pm in the square. However, to make this happen, we need volunteers to staff the house each of those days. If you are available during those hours for any of those days, please use the button below to sign up for a slot.

WAM the Spaceman needs your help on December 21st! From 9:00 am to noon, we will all be assembling the blanket on the Capitol Lawn. Again from 9:00 pm to midnight, we will be disassembling the blanket. You can help transport people to Washington DC during your own travels, or assemble the blanket on the lawn in the morning, or disassemble the blanket in the evening. You can use the button below to volunteer your time for these important tasks.

We have featured several states in our monthly Facebook Features section, but now we want you to ask, "What is my state doing to support the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project?" You can get a direct browser link to the Facebook page of you state by typing in #memorialblanket followed by the name of your state. Once you are there, you can even request to join the page!
