October 2022 News
Babe's Blankets
Whenever the Babes of Wrath hit the road, you can be sure that advocacy for persons experiencing homelessness will be at the center of their presentations. Additionally, new groups of people were exposed to the mission of the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project, both in public discussions and the press. One example is the mention the project received in the Whitehall Ledger of Whitehall, MT on September 28. The 5th paragraph of the paper's "Between the Stacks" by Jeannie Ferriss highlighted the visit of Pat LaMarche and Diane Nilan, and featured a concise description of the upcoming blanket event in Washington, DC. You can read all about it using the link below.
To Do List
We thank each and every one of you for the great work you are putting into crafting blankets and spreading the word about the project. I imagine that like us, you are fielding questions or perhaps wondering yourself, "What do I do with my blankets?" Well, we are here to help you out with that question by giving you a few directions. Thankfully, if you are reading this, you have already completed the first direction: sign up for the newsletter. Doing that will bring regular updates to your email. Second, we will not need the blankets going to Washington, DC until December 21st, and storing them in advance poses challenges. You can help with this by keeping them safe and sound until at least December. Third, you can become a subscriber to your state's Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project Facebook group. If you're from one of the states with lots and lots of blankets (Maine, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Illinois, and beyond) your Facebook admin can help give you further information. Fourth, if you're mailing one or two by yourself, we'll get you a shipping address by mid November. If it's inconvenient to wait to ship, please message Pat LaMarche directly or send her an email at epicjourney10@gmail.com.

Time to Volunteer
It's hard to believe that what all began back in our first newsletter in April will soon be drawing to a spectacular close with the display of the blankets on the Capitol Lawn on December 21, 2022. This brings about another opportunity for you to make this campaign an even bigger success by volunteering to travel, assemble, admire, and disassemble your beautiful creations. So far we have four people signed up to help, but we can always use a lot more. Use the link below to sign up and join in the fun.
Here Is The News - Go Make More!
In addition to the press received in Minnesota, the Dakotas, Montana, Washington, California, and Utah during the Babes of Wrath tour, we have the privilege of featuring two new articles from Pennsylvania and New Jersey at the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project media page. Use the links below to go directly to the articles. Better yet, if fun stuff Is going on in your area, let us know! We'll get the word out to your local press.
Bedtime Story
During the Babes of Wrath Tour, Pat and Diane were introduced to an organization in Minnesota with a simple but important mission-providing new beds to kids. This inspired the Charles Bruce Foundation to provide Priscilla books on your behalf at a discounted price. You won't even be charged the cost of shipping. The books will be added to the dream kit of a child receiving a bed from My Very Own Bed. If you want to read more about the Babes visit to Minnesota, you can click the "Read the Article" button below, or click the "Donate a Book" button to make your book donation.
Ask, and You Shall Receive
We mentioned last month that if you are looking for supplies for your blankets, we got some fabric donated. Much of it is already cut into squares. If you are able to assemble these pieces into completed blankets, you can contact Pat LaMarche at epicjourney10@gmail.com to receive those supplies. Better yet, look for donations of your own by using recycle websites such as Trash Nothing.
One Facebook administrator recommended the post, "Looking for unused yarn or partially completed projects you are not able to finish. I’m looking to create some blankets to donate to https://memorialblanket.org/." Not only will is help you find the supplies you need, but it will also bring greater attention to the project.
International Exposure
As we mentioned in our August newsletter, news of the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project is no longer confined to the United States. The September issue of the UK's Simply Knitting magazine featured an article about the project for its readers. If you are interested in knitting beyond the project, you can subscribe to Simply Knitting by clicking the September cover on the right. If you prefer just to read the article they featured about us, you can click the button below for a pdf.
