Create for the Unhoused

Oh yeah! We're gonna have some fun at a fundraiser! You probably know that the #memorialblanket background costs are in the thousands. That's really nothing compared to the—LITERALLY—millions of dollars worth of materials and time folks have put into handcrafting blankets over the years.

However, expenses do exist. So, we're going to try and raise those funds (we've also applied for grants) with a very fun fundraiser.

Join us for breakfast—yummy food and delicious coffee, juice, and other beverages—and make a coffee mug at our longtime blanket partners Create-a-Palooza.

You can make a mug for yourself or make one for someone who will climb out from under one of these donated blankets. Or both!

We are partnering with Welcome to Housing, a magnificent organization that provides people exiting homelessness with the essentials they need for their new homes. Seriously, what's more essential than a coffee mug? More details to follow. Use the button below to purchase your tickets.

Getting the Big Picture

What a thrill for #memorialblanket that Mrs. Roose and the other Real World Learning teachers at Vaux High School in Philadelphia will be collaborating with us on blanket creation and promoting greater understanding and empathy in their students! This is so wonderful. Many of these kids could teach us a thing or two about the real world, and this collaboration will be as joyful as it is hopeful. People experiencing homelessness need teachers like Mrs. Roose to dispel myths by making it part of the curriculum!

You Are Out of this World

You are the ones who make this important impact on the lives of the unhoused each year. We ask you to continue creating blankets using any method you prefer—knitting, crocheting, quilting, or sewing—and donate them through #memorialblanket.

The blankets can be either 45 inches x 80 inches for individuals or 60 inches x 80 inches for family blankets. The uniformity of the 80-inch length allows us to maintain a seamless coverage area.

As you are probably already aware, on December 21, 2024, we will lay hundreds of blankets at Independence National Historic Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to raise awareness of and spread kindness to people experiencing homelessness.

“Our goal is to show people that they are not alone,” said Chris Kapp, homeless advocate and board member for the Charles Bruce Foundation. “Each blanket is more than just a cover. It’s a reminder that there are people who care, even if they’ve never met. It’s a powerful way to spread love, hope, and healing.”

Whether you’re a skilled knitter, crocheter, sewer, or new to crafting, your contribution can provide a special, personal touch to those in need of warmth.

For those unable to make blankets but still eager to contribute, financial donations are also accepted to help cover shipping costs, provide materials for others to turn into blankets, and support other organizational efforts. Use the button below to give to this vital program.
