State of Homelessness

Every year, our community conducts the Point In Time count on a designated day during the last two weeks of January.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development mandates that we perform a count at least every other year.

Early on, we (the Continuum of Care) decided to administer our census each year. Taking an annual, community snapshot of homelessness keeps us up close and personal with the data. The data provides community need indicators.

We need to know what we need because it is always changing and always will be.

What did we find in 2018?
  • 27% fewer people homeless since 2009
  • 81% fewer veterans
  • 57% fewer chronic (on the streets more than a year or at least four episodes)
