Homelessness News: Partnerships have Power

Sending a special thank you to Mayor Lenny Curry and Director of Strategic Partnerships, Dawn Lockhart for making this opportunity a reality.

This funding will help to ensure preservation of affordable housing in the Ken Knight neighborhood and encourage expansion of mobile outreach.

Housing and healthcare are fundamental to quality of life.
Leaders on a Mission

Have you seen Buzz TV's On a Mission with Penny Kievet? Recently, she interviewed Rena Coughlin from the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida about the role of nonprofits.

Did you know nonprofits represent the "3rd largest civilian employer"?

From hospitals, educational institutions, workforce and community development agencies to arts organizations, Nonprofits "impact everyday life" in a big way.

But even with all the good nonprofits do and inspire, they face challenges.

  1. Some awesome organizations aren't even known
  2. The greatest source of funding is from individuals - big and small dollars
  3. Pipeline for leadership (who can and should lead)
  4. Volunteer Boards are asked to do more high-level governance

We often receive inquiries about starting a nonprofit and how one goes about crystallizing the dream.

Step 1: Connect with the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida! It offers lots of workshops and opportunities for learning.

Do YOU HMIS?
As we prepare for the August Surge, we're looking back to 2017
So what happens with the results once we're done? We'll publish the data and evaluate our progress. This year we're focusing on all individuals living on the streets. That's somebody's father, mother, brother, sister, son or daughter with no place to call home.

If you were to take guess, how many people do you think are living on the streets of Northeast Florida?

Send us an email and let us know your thoughts, and we'll publish your feedback in next month's newsletter.
