Homelessness News: Prevention and Preparedness
COVID-19 Homelessness Resources

As new COVID-19 cases continue to emerge in our community, our goal remains the same: ensuring the safety and well-being of the population we serve, our staff members, and partner agencies.

We've developed a list of local, state, and federal resources to keep you informed on all COVID-19 developments, tips, and new protocols.
Shelter Protocol

In an effort to continue providing services while also maintaining effective safety measures for clients, staff, and parter agencies, the Northeast Florida Continuum of Care has developed a shelter protocol that is in effect until further notice.

Visit our COVID-19 Resources page to learn more about the  Northeast Florida Continuum of Care COVID-19 Shelter Protocol .
CARES Act

The   recently-passed CARES Act   includes financial support for housing and homeless organizations. Some of the allocated funds include:

  • $4 billion for homeless assistance to be distributed through the Emergency Solutions Grant program (ESG).
  • 12 billion for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) specifically for housing and homeless programs.
  • $150 billion directly to states and local governments through the Coronavirus Relief Fund.

For a breakdown of the CARES Act and what it means for the homelessness response, visit this  article   from the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

How can clients receive their stimulus checks during COVID-19?

If someone is experiencing homelessness, they are still eligible to receive a COVID-19 economic stimulus payment.

Anyone who filed a 2018 or 2019 tax return will automatically get a check. They must update their address using the official form .

If they did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019 and/or had zero income, they must first fill out this IRS form .

If a client does not have an address, please direct them to the Urban Rest Stop located at 611 East Adams Street.
