Kicks for Cash
This was AWB-Oregon's first year partnering in Kickball Without Borders, a fundraiser organized by our friends at the Portland Professionals Chapter of Engineers Without Borders. Five firms- Ankrom Moisan Architects, C2K Architecture,  GBD Architects,  KPFF Consulting Engineers, and Hennebery Eddy Architects-registered their teams through AWB, raising  $1,525 for our humanitarian efforts around the world.

An Immersion Experience
In August, Architects Without Borders-Oregon welcomed Vaibhav Saxena, an architecture student from India's Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi and winner of a Berkeley Prize Travel Fellowship which allowed him to spend two weeks immersing himself "socially, mentally, and physically" in Portland's homelessness issues. During his two weeks in Portland, Saxena lived at Dignity Village, a city-sanctioned tiny house community that provides transitional housing. He also did outreach work with JOIN, a social service agency that helps individuals and families move from homelessness to permanent housing. Over dinner one evening, Saxena and AWB steering committee members engaged in a cross-cultural discussion about homelessness. On his last night in Portland, Saxena attended AWB's general meeting where he made a short presentation about his experiences at Dignity Village and showed his design for a Dignity Village tiny home that would address problems of storage, temperature, and ventilation. When completed, Saxena's travel fellowship report will be posted here: http://berkeleyprize.org/competition/travel/2016/report-from-winners
