Our presenter today was Matt Wallace, Homeless Outreach Coordinator for Lee County Human & Veteran Services. Last year there were 2,800 homeless in our county. The school district provided homeless related services 2,100 children receive services last year.

Job loss is the number 1 reason people are homeless, number 2 is mental health issues and number 3 is substance abuse. These are the people we want to focus on. Matt is just one individual that works in the continuum care providing services for the homeless in our county (law enforcement, housing, VA, United Way 211, service agencies, medical providers  and more just to name a few).

He showed us an example of a bag made by FGCU students containing basic items in them. It's called the Kindness Project.
