Homeowner Newsletter Winter 2023

Heritage Oaks Turns Ten!

The Heritage Oaks Habitat Neighborhood turned ten in 2022. The first Habitat home in Heritage Oaks closed escrow in 2012, and by the end of 2013 the neighborhood had six completed homes. By the end of 2019 a small Common Area had been developed, sixteen Homeowner families had moved in, and Phase 1 of the neighborhood was complete.  Heritage Oaks, the sixth location for Habitat homes in Nevada County, is located just west of the corner of Whiting Street and Joyce Drive.

Congratulations Heritage Oaks!

Fortunately, Habitat was able to purchase a large parcel of land on the other side of Joyce drive. Twelve additional homes will join Heritage Oaks as Heritage Oaks Phase II.

Habitat Homeowner Helps Out in Construction Process

When Matt Arnold started working at Diamond Pacific two years ago he didn’t realize that his job would have a Habitat connection. Matt and his wife Corinne have been Habitat Homeowners in Heritage Oaks for nine years.

Ian Nansen, Habitat Construction Program Coordinator works with Diamond Pacific, one of Habitat’s key material vendors. Ian was delighted to find Matt at the company. “Because he worked on the construction of his own home, Matt has a real understanding of our construction process. He helps us build more affordable homes though his profession,” says Ian. “When I contact Diamond Pacific, I always ask for Matt.”

Money Matters

Here’s a money saving tip: avoid late fees at all costs! That’s one of the Financial Rules of Thumb from personal finance columnist Michelle Singletary. One way to avoid late fees with your mortgage is to set up bill pay with your bank. Interested? Contact Lisa Hooper at the Habitat office via email or call 530-274-1951 ext. 3.

Are you familiar with the Affordable Connectivity program? This is a federal program that provides a benefit of $30 a month on internet services for qualifying households. You can learn more here.
