- Ray Adamyk, Executive Director of Home of Promise, announced today that he has purchased the iconic YMCA Building located at 350 N. Garey Avenue in Pomona, Calif. for $2.65 million. Bank of the West provided financing to Adamyk and the seller was Sheng Ma, LLC. Spectra Company will restore and renovate the property.
The approximately 80,000 square-foot property, built in 1920 and listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, includes two free-standing buildings. The main building is a beautiful, three-story brick and terracotta structure that contains more than 50 studio residential units, a swimming pool, basketball court, a gym and four racquetball courts. It also features high stain glass windows that face a row of palm trees near Garey Avenue, a main thoroughfare leading to the heart of Pomona.
The award-winning Spectra Company, known for restoring some of the most iconic buildings in the Western United States, has been headquartered in Pomona since 2000. According to Adamyk, Spectra Company & Homes of Promise will relocate its operations to the YMCA Building once it restores the property and completes a multi-million-dollar renovation. Plans call for converting the main building into non profit creative office space and affordable residential units. Also, the gyms and sports courts will be restored to host special events such as weddings, holiday parties and corporate meetings and more. The southwest corner will serve the community with a new café and coffee bar.

"Spectra Company has restored some of California's greatest landmarks, but this has been an especially rewarding and personal achievement as I have done business in Pomona for the last 17-plus years and my wife and I are proud residents of this great city. We look forward to restoring the YMCA to its original grandeur."
Spectra Company will begin the restoration and renovation of the building later this summer with a groundbreaking ceremony to follow. The costs to complete the project are estimated to be $7.5 million. Bank of the West will provide the loan for construction. A Grand Opening of the new YMCA Building is tentatively planned for early 2019.
City officials see the future of the YMCA Building as a key component to the overall revitalization of Pomona.
