The Sunday News from Honey Creek

Sunday,

August 6, 2023

Good Afternoon Honey Creek Families,

Welcome to the 2023-24 school year! Even though school is a month away, back-to-school displays are popping up in stores, our amazing PTO is assembling classroom supply lists and our offices are once again busy with activity in preparation for the first day on September 5. We’ll be using the Sunday newsletter throughout August to roll-out all of the information needed for a successful start-of-year and more.

Once again we want to extend greetings and a warm welcome to the new families joining Honey Creek this fall. You'll be receiving this weekly email update throughout the year along with periodic mid-week updates as needed. We also encourage you to follow our Facebook page for additional fun news and posts.

Below you will find the first of several new staff introductions. This week we're featuring our new principal, Lindsey Segrist, and new 2/3 teacher Madeline Godfrey. We're very excited to have them joining the Honey Creek team.

Next week we'll also be publishing the comprehensive events calendar for the year ahead so you can save all the important dates.

Lastly, don't forget our upcoming community picnic slated for Wednesday, August 30 starting at 5:30 pm at Mill Pond Park in Saline. This is a great opportunity to meet our newest families and staff members, reconnect with returning friends and get the first look at your class and teacher assignments for 2023-24. More details below.

As always, we're here to help with any questions or concerns you may have as the new school year approaches. Visit our help page for more info or email us at [email protected].

Thank you,

Kevin

Meet Madeline Godfrey

New Honey Creek 2/3 Teacher

Hello all! My name is Madeline Godfrey and I am so excited to be joining the Honey Creek Community as a new 2/3 classroom teacher.

I have recently graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. My experiences stem from working with various age groups of children in different educational settings.

I believe in teaching the whole child and making long lasting relationships with all students! Through positive encouragement, all students can learn through play and life experiences. I view each child as the individual that they are and respect all that they have to offer.

Outside of the classroom, I love to read, watch sports, and travel. It is a goal of mine to visit all of the National Parks around the United States.

Fun fact: My partner Hunter and I are getting married in Smoky Mountain National Park this summer!

I can’t wait to be apart of the Honey Creek Community!

Welcome Madeline here!

Meet Lindsey Segrist

New Honey Creek Principal

Hello Honey Creek Families! I am thrilled to be joining the Honey Creek Community! I look forward to meeting everyone soon. Here is a bit of background information about me:

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Master of Arts in K-12 Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University. In 2022, I completed the MASA Horizon Leadership Academy, where I earned a Central Office Endorsement. Currently, I am in the process of completing my Ed. Specialist degree at Western Michigan University

Throughout my career, I have held various roles. I served as an elementary and middle school teacher, and instructional coach in Milan Area Schools. In 2018, I accepted a Principal position at Perry Early Learning Center in Ypsilanti. I also served as the Head Start/GSRP Site Director.

One of my professional passions is mentoring new teachers. In 2022, I was offered the opportunity to be a part-time lecturer at Eastern Michigan University in the College of Education and work with aspiring educators.

I believe in providing students with a high-quality education in a caring, positive, and inclusive environment. I have dedicated my career to the students and families in Washtenaw County, and am honored to have the opportunity to serve the Honey Creek Community.

Welcome Lindsey here!

Next Sunday we'll introduce our other new 2/3 teacher, Josh Ball, our new MS science teacher Christopher Culbertson, and social workers Jo Brown and Anna Stocker!
