The Sunday News from Honey Creek

Our Neighbors & Friends

Good Afternoon Honey Creek Families,

As you know, Honey Creek shares its campus with High Point School, an ISD program that serves students from across Washtenaw County.

You can learn more about High Point through this short video.

Fundamental to our mission is the integration of Honey Creek programming with High Point whenever safe and mutually beneficial. This not only helps our students breakdown the stigma surrounding physical and cognitive challenges but enhances learning for students in both schools.

Understandably, a great deal of our integrated programming was paused during the pandemic and the building construction process. However, we are anxious to once again begin collaborating with High School's staff and students. In the weeks ahead we'll share more information about integrated classroom activities between the two schools as well as educational events and even a combined student vs. staff basketball game in December.

Please take time soon to discuss the Honey Creek/High Point relationship with your child/children and what it means for them and our community as a whole. It's a very unique aspect of our campus that provides many great opportunities to learn and grow. We're looking forward to re-energizing that relationship on our new campus this year and beyond.

Thank you,

Kevin

COVID Testing: Please consider a preventative rapid COVID test over the weekend to ensure your child is healthy prior to departure. This is only a suggestion and not a requirement.

Volunteers

Since building community is one of our goals, we welcome parents to participate. There are many opportunities for you to help, from sending evening snacks, to coming to camp for a half day, full day, or overnight. If you are interested click here: Volunteer Sign Up. Though camp provides our young people with an evening snack, we find with all the activities and walking, they are often hungrier than anticipated. We welcome donations for evening snacks on the same Google sheet (note the tabs on the bottom of the spreadsheet).

Medications

If your child will be taking medication while at camp, give specific written instructions and the exact amount of medication for the four days in a ziplock baggie to the front office the morning we leave (9/11). If they have an “as needed” medication, any extra will be returned to the student to pack in their gear on departure day.

Food from Home

Camp Tamarack maintains a kosher kitchen which restricts ALL outside food from coming into the dining hall and will accommodate food restrictions. We have taken a count of students with dietary restrictions in class. In fact, food is not allowed in the cabins either, so please do not send food with your child.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this rather lengthy email and for entrusting your kids to us. We truly enjoy and are grateful for the opportunity to get to know your kids in this way. If you have any questions please contact Joe or Cindy.
