Dear Stephanie,
This past weekend, we celebrated the 248th Marine Corps Birthday on Friday, I am filled with immense pride in being a part of this distinguished legacy. The Marine Corps, America’s elite first line of defense since its inception by the Second Continental Congress on November 10, 1775, has exemplified honor, courage, and commitment throughout history. Semper Fi!
Having served in the Marines in the 90's, I understand the sacrifices and dedication it takes to defend our nation. Saturday, on Veterans Day, we honored the living heroes who have served our country. I was also honored to receive the 2023 Award of Meritorious Service from the City of Aurora for "going above & beyond to serve our community".
Last week marked the conclusion of the fall Veto session, during which we achieved a significant milestone. I am proud to announce the passage of SB 2315 in the House (but it still needs to be voted on in the Senate next year), a bill that extends property tax relief to Veterans, surviving spouses of fallen police officers, and rescue workers. This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to supporting those who have dedicated their lives to serving our communities.
I encourage you to engage in the spirit of gratitude and patriotism. Reach out to the Veterans in your life, attend a local event, and reflect on the sacrifices made for our freedom not just on Veteran's Day but throughout the year.
This week I am heading out to Washington D.C. to participate in the annual Climate Emergency & Energy Security D.O.E Summit, co-hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The summit, organized by the Energy Outreach and Policy Alliance (EOPA), will bring together officials from across the nation to be briefed by the White House and the Department of Energy about the community benefits stemming from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). I look forward to representing our state and our community in DC, and am eager to work alongside fellow lawmakers and stakeholders from across our Nation.
Take care and be well,
