As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, we remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the extraordinary courage and service that emerged in the face of tragedy. It is also a moment to reflect on the strength of community and how resilience is built through connection, compassion and a shared determination.

Community is showing up for the Palisades

As we head into mid-September, there is a growing sense of momentum across our community—businesses are reopening, neighbors are reconnecting, and more partners are stepping forward to invest in the recovery and future of Pacific Palisades. We’re seeing that spirit come together around the PaliBu Resource & Recovery Expo on Sunday, October 11, where 150+ businesses, agencies, nonprofits and experts will gather in the heart of the Palisades.

This is more than an Expo. It’s a community coming together to rebuild, recover, reconnect and move forward—with 150+ exhibitors, expert panels, rebuilding and resilience resources, food, music and thousands of neighbors expected throughout the day, SUNDAY OCTOBER 11.

And we’re especially grateful to the businesses and organizations helping us make it happen. Connections, Community & Malibu Moves

Our latest PaliBu Connections Breakfast was a wonderful reminder of what makes our Chamber community so special. Members and Board members came together to share their work, make new connections, exchange ideas and learn more about the businesses and organizations that are helping our communities thrive.

We were especially delighted to feature PaliBu Board Member Erica Segel, organizer of Malibu Moves, who shared the story and vision behind this signature Malibu event and the power of bringing people together through movement, wellness and community. Special thanks to fay Vahdani and Luxe Homecare for always being a pivotal part of our success and to Fred Krnenberg for speaking at our next Wellness Committee event.

Malibu Safety Resource Fair

Get prepared for wildfire season and other emergencies at the City of Malibu’s Safety Resource Fair on Saturday, September 26, from 11 AM–3 PM. Residents, families and businesses can connect with resources, information and practical guidance on wildfire, earthquake, flood and disaster preparedness. Whether you’re just getting started or strengthening an existing plan, it’s a great opportunity to get ready and build resilience.

Keep the Palisades Safe & Brush Free

LAFD is reminding Pacific Palisades property owners to stay on top of brush clearance, particularly within 200 feet of structures—including homes under construction. Keep weeds and grass cut to 3 inches, remove dead vegetation, and preserve appropriate live trees and root systems that help stabilize hillsides. Property owners who have completed clearance can request an LAFD property review by emailing Inspector Warren Sutton at warren.sutton@lacity.org with the property address and photos of the completed work.

Malibu Moves: Running for Community

Malibu Moves is about much more than crossing a finish line. Through its Community Impact Fund, the annual race gives back to local nonprofits supporting youth, education and community resilience—including the Emily Shane Foundation, whose running team will once again take part.

The Foundation was created by Ellen and Michel Shane in memory of their daughter, Emily Rose Shane, who was killed in a traffic collision on PCH. Today, its SEA Program provides personalized tutoring and mentorship to underserved middle school students, while Michel Shane’s Driving Change initiative works to prevent other families from experiencing a similar tragedy by advocating for greater safety on PCH.

Since its first race, Malibu Moves has directed more than $110,000 back into the community, benefiting the Malibu Education Foundation, Emily Shane Foundation, Girls on the Run of Los Angeles County and Sarah Shulze Foundation.

There’s new energy in Malibu! Please join us in welcoming Beams Boutique, Hank’s Organics, and N2 Aesthetics to the local business community. We’re excited to see new doors opening and encourage everyone to stop in, say hello, and support local.

Also coming up: the Malibu Rebuild Task Force’s “Own Your Rebuild” Community Information Session, connecting fire survivors directly with City staff, architects, building and financial experts, and other professionals who can provide practical guidance for navigating the rebuilding process.

Partner Spotlight: Malibu Education Foundation Gala

Our friends at the Malibu Education Foundation (MEF) invite the community to Illuminate. Elevate. Educate. at the annual MEF Gala on Saturday, October 17, from 6–10:30 PM at Malibu High School.

The evening supports all four Malibu public schools and is open to the entire community. Tickets are $200, with tables of 10 available for $5,000. With only 300 seats—and a sold-out event last year—early reservations are encouraged.
