Honoring Barbara Tinney

It is with the utmost privilege we honor a legendary leader in the New Haven community. Barbara Tinney has tirelessly dedicated over 20 years to being a change agent and a voice for social equality. She has worked in the social work field for over 30 years including as a professor at Southern Connecticut State University. Barbara remains committed to social justice, economic and education equity, strengthening families and supporting parents, family wellness, youth development and community building. Her passion has influenced various community leaders and impacted the lives of thousands of children and family. Her legacy will continue to thrive through the endurance and replication of a truthful and value driven lifestyle.

IWG is honored to present the most prestigious award to Barbara Tinney. We pay homage to her for the trailblazing work that she began 30 years ago and understand deeply the impact that her unwavering commitment for people of color that are often lost and push aside. We honor Barbara for her courage and bravery, as she stood up against racial injustice and oppressive systems. Barbara is by far one of the most dynamic and conscientious leader in New Haven, who remains at the forefront of the most complex issues related to racial equity.

Friday, October 12th we are celebrating our 10th year anniversary. Ten years of commitment and service in mental wellness to the communities we reside; in honor of Mental Health, Awareness month are hosting our first fundraising gala at the New Haven Lawn Club. The theme for this year’s gala is “Healing Together.” We hope that this night will encourage and inspire you. In addition to celebrating our service, we would also like to take the time to recognize those who have genuinely made an impact on mental health in urban communities.

Join us on a night that promises to elevate, encourage and inspire the possibility for change and raise money for the next generation of healing in support of the   V.E.T.T.S.® Mentorship Program.
