Protecting Land & Water | Advocacy | Balanced Growth
This Earth Month feels different than any other.

But as fellow stewards of the Earth, we hope you’ll take comfort in the knowledge that nature continues its cycles while our world is paused. Everywhere you look, spring is in bloom. Flowers are blossoming, trees are budding, birdsong fills the air, and new life is all around — one member of our team is even tracking the growth of tadpoles in her backyard!

This excerpt from beloved nature poet Mary Oliver’s “Wild Geese” feels especially appropriate these days:

Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.

While we cannot, for the health of each other and our communities, savor this season as we might usually, we’re sharing some ways you can honor Earth Month from home below. Also keep an eye on our social media channels, where we’ll be sharing more special content all month long.

From all of us at Upstate Forever, take care and be well.

Upstate Forever is a nonprofit conservation organization that protects critical lands, waters, and the unique character of Upstate South Carolina.  Over the past two decades, we have worked to protect the natural assets that make the Upstate so special — our farmlands, forests, natural areas, rivers, and clean air. We are committed to ensuring that our communities are vibrant and retain their green spaces, outdoor heritage, and unique identities in the face of rapid development and significant sprawl. Our vision is an environmentally healthy, economically prosperous Upstate that offers a high quality of life now and for future generations.
