Honoring IMRF Annuitant Trustee Sharon U. Thompson
|
We are deeply saddened to share with you that IMRF Annuitant Trustee Sharon U. Thompson passed away on Oct. 3, 2019. Thompson, the Board Secretary and Legislative Committee Chairperson during 2019, served more than two decades as an IMRF Trustee. In 2019 alone, she represented 133,261 retirees. She was the second-longest tenured Trustee in IMRF history.
"Sharon dedicated two decades of her life to the service of IMRF members and employers," IMRF Executive Director Brian Collins said. "As a Trustee, she helped chart a course for IMRF to become one of the leading public pension systems in the nation. The entire IMRF family is grateful to Sharon and her family for her many years of passion and dedication. We will miss her very much."

In September, IMRF hosted examiners from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as part of IMRF's 2019
Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award application. For the second consecutive year, IMRF was one of 12 organizations selected for a site visit, the final stage of the national evaluation process.
A presidential-level honor, the award recognizes exemplary U.S. organizations and businesses that demonstrate an unceasing drive for radical innovation, thoughtful leadership, and administrative improvement. The expert Baldrige judges evaluate organizations in seven areas defined by the
Baldrige Excellence Framework: leadership; strategy; customers; measurement, analysis and knowledge management; workforce; operations; and results.
In November, a panel of judges will review the examiner team's feedback regarding IMRF and other finalists, and NIST will announce the award recipient(s) in December.
If honored with an award, IMRF would be the first public pension fund in the nation to receive a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
As our employer partners, we share this accolade with you. After all, without your professional diligence and support, we would not have the opportunity to serve employees statewide with excellence.
