Honoring Juneteenth
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S. It was first celebrated in Galveston, Texas, where on June 19, 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, enslaved people were declared free under the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.
Today, Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics, and family gatherings.
Last year, Juneteenth became a federal holiday, and for the first time, Eden I&R is proud to observe it as a holiday for staff.

National PTSD Awareness Month
National PTSD Awareness Month is dedicated to raising awareness about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and how to access treatment. Anyone can experience PTSD as a result of trauma in their lives, including from combat, accidents, disasters and abuse.
PTSD is treatable and there’s no shame in seeking help.

Face Masks Return as COVID-19 Numbers Increase
As of earlier this month, Alameda County health officials have required masks in most indoor public settings.
The return to masking is an attempt to limit the impact of increasing COVID-19 cases on hospitalizations as daily reported COVID-19 cases have exceeded the peak of last summer’s wave. Officials also recognize that case numbers are underreported due to home testing and unidentified infections.

Welcome Bridget Schultz to 211
As Development & Outreach Associate, Bridget Schultz will help Eden I&R raise awareness of our programs among the community and various stakeholders, including donors.
Before joining Eden I&R, Bridget was a marketing associate in the publishing and tech startup space, as well as holding fundraising roles for Global Citizen Year and WildAid.
Originally from New York, Bridget moved to the Bay Area and fell in love with Oakland. When she's not working, you can find her reading, hiking, or setting out on an adventure.
Bridget is deeply passionate about social innovation, environmental conservation, and the power of education. She is delighted to join the Eden I&R team and looks forward to supporting communities throughout Alameda County.

Joining a BART Advisory Committee
Our Transportation Manager, Lobsan Barrera, has joined BART's Title VI/Environmental Justice Advisory Committee.
The committee was designed to encourage the full and fair participation of communities of color and low-income residents in BART's decision-making process. They vote and advise on transportation, accessibility, mobility and economic issues related to environmental justice.
Lobsan is excited to represent Eden I&R and to advocate for the communities we serve.

AHIP (AIDS Housing Information Project) |
|
AHIP (AIDS Housing Information Project) offers housing and human services resource referrals to People Living with HIV/AIDS via a designated phone line and through one-on-one, in-person assistance at clinics and AIDS Service Organizations.
Last month, AHIP completed 235 calls, 8 client meetings and provided 640 housing referrals and 202 referrals to services. AHIP completed 1 permanent housing placement, 4 site visits and assisted 5 clients with Coordinated Entry System navigation and document readiness. Year to date, AHIP has provided assistance to 301 unduplicated clients.

Partner Spotlight - Oakland LGBTQ Community Center
For PRIDE Month, Eden I&R would like to highlight the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center, which was founded in 2017.
Its mission is "enhancing and sustaining the well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals, our families and allies, by providing educational, social and health-related activities, programs and services."
It is Oakland's first multi-cultural, multi-gender, intergenerational, LGBTQ community center.
The center also offers emergency rental assistance to low-income individuals and families living in Alameda County. We are thrilled to have them as a partner and are so grateful for all they do for the community.
