Friends,

I'm eager to work with Adam and Michael on bringing BC High to even greater heights, and I hope to arrange an opportunity for you to meet them both later this spring. Michael brings impressive financial management depth and breadth at the collegiate level, and Adam is a true Ignatian educator. I know they will both find an instant home in this loving community.

As we stop to welcome our new members, we must also pause to honor and thank our longtime friends, benefactors, and leaders. This week has presented several opportunities to do just that - from Grand Reunion when more than 400 alumni joined us on campus - to award ceremonies honoring J. Frank Keohane '53, GP'12, '14 and Dr. Martin Dunn '53, Steve Hughes '73, P'98, and former BC High faculty member and Trustee Meg Florentine. Michael Ray '86 was our honored guest and master of ceremonies for the awards.

The mission is alive and present in each of us who have been so fortunate to be shaped in some way by this school. From the work our honorees have already done... to the long-lasting legacies they have established that will sustain and inspire us for years to come. From two alumni discussing their treasured memories of Morrissey Boulevard, to sharing their sons' first experiences at this school. The past, present, and future of BC High is visible in these servant leaders just as it is evident in the memories of alumni celebrating their bonds at reunion.

We are truly blessed to be a part of this community and I thank you, as always, for being my partner in this mission.

AMDG,
Saint Ignatius and Hearts on Fire Awards
On Monday April 8 I was honored to welcome J. Frank Keohane '53, GP'12, '14 back to campus to present him with the Hearts on Fire Award. We celebrated the lifetime commitment and dedication of Frank, who has served on the Board of Trustees for several years and continues to generously support BC High in many areas. From the Keohane Track, to the Hyde Center, Bulger Theater, and Hunter Fahey Commons, Frank’s generosity has transformed the lives and experiences of so many at BC High. His philanthropic legacy is an inspiration to us all. To view more photos from the day, visit this link.

At the Saint Ignatius Awards Principal Hughes received BC High’s highest honor for alumni, the St. Ignatius Award, recognizing his more than forty years of service to the school. To view Steve's video acceptance of the award, visit this page.

The Thomas and Mary Shields Medal was presented to Margaret Florentine, who recently retired as Provincial Assistant for Pre-Secondary and Secondary Education of the Northeast Province of Jesuits. Florentine served in this role for nearly 20 years, she is also a retired member of the BC High faculty and former Trustee. To view Margaret's video acceptance of the award, visit this page.

The awards ceremony this year featured a special honor, the first-ever conferral of an award recognizing the global vision of William Kemeza, President of Boston College High School from 2004-2017. His leadership led to the creation of the first ever International Colloquium of Jesuit Secondary Education, as well as the establishment of the Hyde Center for Global Education at BC High; both monumental accomplishments that will change the trajectory of Jesuit education for decades to come.

The inaugural recipient of the William Kemeza Global Leadership Award was Martin Dunn, DMD ’53. Dr. Dunn is a retired oral & maxillofacial surgeon, Boston College High School Trustee, and Co-Founder of the Jesuit Global Colloquium. He is also co-founder and past-president of Por Christo, a charitable medical service organization that organized and supervised 60 voluntary medical missions to South America and republics of the former Soviet Union to provide lifesaving dental care and facial surgery from 1979 to 1994. We Did It! - Parent Give Day 2019
I am thrilled to announce that, through the immense generosity of our parent and guardian community, we raised more than $122,000 for BC High in one day. Nearly 300 past and present parents of BC High students and alumni participated in Parent Give Day 2019.

In fact, by 11 a.m. on April 9 more than $44,000 had been raised, and was matched by three anonymous families. This remarkable threshold honored the 44 years of service that Principal Steve Hughes '73, P'98 has devoted to the BC High community. As part of the tribute, students visited a table in the Hunter Fahey Commons to write notes of gratitude for Steve.

Before the end of the day an entire board was filled with heartfelt warm wishes and thanks. These messages, as well as your incredible outpouring of generosity and support, are just a few of the ways we plan to honor Steve in the coming months.
Grand Reunion 2019 for Classes Ending in '4 and '9
On Saturday April 6 more than 400 alumni returned to campus for Mass and fellowship. Grand Reunion is one of my favorite events to host each year because school is filled with love and energy. Seeing so many grateful and successful men come back to Morrissey Boulevard is a vindication of our mission. The role BC High played in bringing these men together and preparing them for the world has bonded them forever. As they reminisced and caught up, I thought of the Greek roots of the word nostalgia - nostos, homecoming. For the first time in many years or perhaps just a few days these Eagles were home once again! For a full album of photos from the evening, visit this link.
BC High Receives the Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam Award
On Tuesday April 9 the USA Northeast Province of the Society of Jesus honored the 10 high schools in the Province with the Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam award at the Jesuit GALA. I was proud to accept on behalf of our fellow Jesuit schools alongside Fr. James Keenan, SJ. The award recognizes the excellence of our Northeast Jesuit high schools and the inspirational mission of educating young men and women of competence, compassion and courage. BC High was well represented with a large contingent of faculty, staff, and alumni in attendance!
