MARCH 15, 2026

In continuation of Social Work Month, we’re proud to spotlight: Anita Raman, LMSW.

Anita transitioned into social work wanting a meaningful and people-centered career. Supporting individuals through life’s challenges and earning their trust continues to inspire her every day.

At JFS, Anita finds great reward in facilitating SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions). She loves seeing parents become more confident in supporting their children and watching that confidence positively shape the family dynamic. Anita focuses on being present, listening deeply, and honoring her clients’ expertise in their own lives.

Her message for Social Work Month:

“Social work is about empowerment, prevention, and reminding people they are not alone. Every person deserves dignity, connection, and the chance to thrive.”

We are pleased to work with a team from the Harvard Business School Alumni Club of Connecticut Community Partners, to support a comprehensive review and strategic planning process for the agency and expansion of our Behavioral Health Services. Through their pro bono engagement, the team provided valuable insight as they worked closely with our leadership, clinical staff, and board to assess current programs, community needs, and identify opportunities for thoughtful, sustainable growth.

This collaboration came at a pivotal time, as JFS expands services across the state and demand for behavioral health continues to rise. The Community Partners team offered expertise in organizational strategy and operations that helped strengthen the JFS approach and ensure we are well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of individuals and families who rely on our services. We look forward to sharing additional updates as this important work continues.

Addressing Food Insecurity Together

As funding shifts and the need for food assistance continues to grow across our region, community collaboration has never been more essential. JFS was grateful to join the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut and local partners for a recent conversation on strengthening our regional food assistance network.

Facilitated by Reverend Benjamin Green of Evans Memorial AME Zion Church, the discussion created space to share challenges and explore solutions. Our Norwich office contributed insight into the unique needs of immigrant families, who often face additional barriers to accessing support.

We also thank the East Lyme Giving Garden for participating and for their commitment to providing fresh, healthy food to local families.

In a year of ongoing change, we’re proud to stand with our partners as we work together to ensure that no neighbor goes without.
