Honoring all who served VETERANS DAY

National Veterans and Military Families Month is declared annually every November in the U.S. to celebrate veterans and military families. This month-long celebration serves as a time to acknowledge the sacrifices they have made for this country and recognize the strength and courage they embody.

Palmetto Bay will be celebrating Veterans and Military Families Month in our Village during November by showcasing a few of the outstanding Veterans that play a key role in the daily lives of our community. Today, we proudly recognize a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, our very own Village Manager,

Nick Marano.

Mr. Marano served in the Marine Corps for over twenty-seven years of active duty. He led large units in combat operations and did four combat tours to Iraq from 2002 to 2007. He was 1st Marine Expeditionary Force Senior watch officer in Operation Iraqi Freedom I and as the Current Operations Officer for Operation Iraqi Freedom II and subsequently assumed command as the Battalion Commander of 1st BN, 7th Marines. He has been awarded four Bronze Stars. Mr. Marano was also presented with the 2012 Secretary of the Navy Award for Energy and Water Management.

For three years he commanded the Marine Corps largest base Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California. Mr. Marano oversaw over 60,000 people from different aspects including Marine and Navy personnel and Military families, among others. In addition to his Marine experience, Mr. Marano graduated from Saint Joseph’s University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance. He also studied International Strategic Studies at NATO Defense College, located in Rome, Italy. Throughout his time in the military, he was promoted several times retiring with the high-level rank of Colonel.

After retiring from the Marine Corps, Mr. Marano became the City Manager for the Consolidated Municipality of Carson City, Nevada’s Capital City. His role as Colonel Commanding Officer prepared him for this position. Mr. Marano served as City Manager there for four years until his family decided to relocate to South Florida, as this was a long-term goal of theirs.

Mr. Marano officially started his role as Village Manager of Palmetto Bay in November of 2020. He is also the Chief Administrative Officer for the Village, overseeing and managing all departmental operations, such as Community & Economic Development, Finance, Human Resources & Communications, Parks & Recreation, and the Policing Unit. This November marks one year of Mr. Marano being Village Manager and we are so grateful for all the work he has done for Palmetto Bay and look forward to what is to come.

Mr. Marano, we thank you for your service to our country and for being an incredible leader in our community!
