Nov. 11 Veteran's Day. Honoring All Who Served.
In honor of Veterans Day, The Boston Home is proud to spotlight three resident veterans. Keff, John and George, thank you for your service!
Keff D. was born in Omaha, Nebraska and grew up with his mom in Louisville, Kentucky. (He fondly remembers the annual Kentucky Derby Pie!) Over the summers, Keff spent time in Dorchester where his “Pops” lived. On those visits he developed a love of the Boston Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics. Keff’s visits “back east” included summer camp at Mount Washington. He says those adventures later influenced his decision to enlist in the military. Read more...
George W. grew up in Wellesley, and joined the Air Force right after high school. After completing Basic Training, George attended Air Force Tech School in Denver, Colorado.

George remembers that one of the more challenging aspects of the eight-week Tech School was encountering people from different parts of the country who had preconceived ideas about Boston. George fondly remembers another airman who befriended him in the Mess line one day, and told him not to worry about the gibes.

Following Tech School, George was stationed back in Massachusetts, very close by his home. After the Air Force, George worked for Bank of America before coming to live at The Boston Home. On the importance of honoring Veterans Day, George notes, "This country would not be the same without Veterans." We agree!
