Approximately 2.7 million individuals served in uniform and as civilians in Vietnam and it's estimated that more than 200,000 call Michigan home today. Over 58,000 U.S. military members lost their lives, and many veterans faced unique challenges upon returning home due to the divisive nature of the war, including potential health issues related to exposure to Agent Orange. Friday December 13th is our opportunity to honor these amazing individuals and their families for their dedication, service, and sacrifices and to give them a heart-felt and respectful "Welcome Home", learn history and hear stories from the veterans themselves.
In addition, it is estimated that between 200,000 and 250,000 South Vietnamese soldiers/allies died during the war. Many of our loyal allies, and their families, who served shoulder-to-shoulder with us in time of war now call Michigan home and invaluably contribute to our community, state, and nation.
