Serving Others on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
We would like to reflect on the accomplishments and dreams of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We believe in the rights for all and believe that everyone - no matter what their background, race, socioeconomic class, or faith - should have access to freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, " Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. we encourage you to serve the needs of others. The ISB will be cleaning Washington Park Natatorium at 9:30 am on Monday, January 21st and we invite you to join. Please check out the details here.

Together, we can make a difference.
Georgia Senator Sheikh Rahman Swearing-in Ceremony at State Capitol
On January 14th, a historic swearing-in ceremony at the State Capitol took place for Sheikh Rahman to honor the first immigrant Muslim elected to the Georgia State Senate. Soumaya Khalifa, ISB Executive Director, served as Emcee. About two hundred diverse attendees representing numerous religious communities were present.

"Today we celebrate a great American story. We celebrate the values and beliefs, that hard work, perseverance, serving others, love for God, country and community can bring us together to commemorate and celebrate this swearing-in. I want to congratulate Senator Rahman on his election," said Khalifa. Khalifa thanked the Senate leadership and the interfaith leaders for their support and cooperation in creating the program. The interfaith leaders each read a prayer for peace and understanding from their faith traditions.

Senator Rahman thanked everyone for their support and spoke of his immigrant journey and humble beginnings from a dish washer to entrepreneur to state senator. Senator Rahman pledged to work hard for all Georgians and to uphold the GA state and US constitutions. Please click here to see the photo gallery of this extraordinary event.
