The Bay Area Honors Symposium - Want to Give a Presentation?

The Bay Honors Research Symposium on April 26th at Berkeley gives students the opportunity to participate in scholarly research in a variety of disciplines, with the goal of presenting their findings in a variety of formats. The Honors Institute will pay Reg Fees for anyone who wants to go! This is a cool thing you can put on your applications and use for your CV. It is amazing to be able to meet a community of like-minded scholars.

Consider submitting a presentation abstract.

The Honors Institute will have an information session about this symposium and how to take part as a presenter. Come on January 15th to the Honors Offices at NOON for 10 minutes to quickly learn more from honors co-director Sam Connell who can help. If you are interested, talk to any professor you have submitted a cool project to already that can be made into an easy presentation!

San Jose State Honors X

SJSU has this excellent program that all students should consider. Have a look. You join a cohort and are able to meet and work with leaders in the field. They are inclusive, grassroots, and hand-on. https://www.sjsu.edu/honorsx/index.php

They want students from the area who want to succeed in new fields of study. It is a minor that you do in conjunction with your major. It is an incredible opportunity, especially if you want to stay local.

There are many opportunities like this out there -- check out the Honors Transfer Council Webpage where they detail other programs in California that are really cool. We are lucky to be in this state. Seriously.

Doing great at UCLA

We are tracking some student experiences at college this year after transfer. Kirsten sends her update:

Happy New Year! 🎊🍾 I wanted to update you on what I've been up to.

I wrapped up my fall classes at UCLA and finished the quarter off strong! I have also been continuing my research in the Thomas Carmichael lab, where I study ways to enhance the neural repair process after stroke using hydrogel biomaterials. Specifically, I study astrocytes and their critical role in modulating post-stroke repair, such as the formation of new neural connections and blood vessels. This upcoming winter quarter, I will be starting an EMT course!
