The Bay Area Honors Symposium

Abstract Proposals due Valentines Day - February 14 at midnight!!!

You can present at a prestigious conference. Meet Honors students and professors from all over the state. What are your ideas? The Bay Honors Research Symposium gives students the opportunity to participate in scholarly research in a variety of disciplines, with the goal of presenting their findings in a variety of formats. The Honors Institute will pay Reg Fees of $35. It is amazing to be able to meet a community of like-minded scholars. If you are interested sign up here.

Consider submitting a presentation abstract. It isn't much at this point, just an idea that can be assessed. Honors co-director, Dr. Sam Connell can help. Consult with your mentor or talk with Sam.

Honors Transfer Program

As we get closer to graduation dates, we want to remind you to take advantage of the transfer partnerships we have with various colleges ad universities. The Foothill College Honors Institute along with the Honors Transfer Council of California (HTTC) has transfer partnerships with colleges and universities across California and the United States. Students completing our Honors Scholar Program enjoy enhanced transfer consideration and/or other benefits at the partner campuses. These may include guaranteed or priority acceptance consideration, special scholarships, housing priority, and pre-transfer library privileges.

If you have not yet done so, please join the Honors Transfer Program to ensure you qualify for the many transfer opportunities available to you as an Honors Scholar. For more information, please visit the website for our Honors Transfer Program.

The RSL Symposium

Plan to participate in this campus and community-wide event!

The Research and Service Leadership Symposium provides students an opportunity to expand their learning beyond the walls of the classroom (or the confines of the screen); to investigate their world through in-depth research projects; to create and participate in worthwhile service learning activities, including original creative arts projects, and to present their newfound knowledge, insights and experiences to the campus community. Students will gain experience presenting in a professional conference setting on the virtual campus through presentations, performance, displays and discussion.

The Symposium itself is the culminating event of these student projects. The event includes

  • A full day and evening of presentations, peer discussion forums, art galleries, and creative performances.
  • Awards ceremony, keynote speaker and closing celebration.

Honors Alumni Notes: Meet Kirsten

She started at UCLA last Fall. She sent a note to Tracee about her first quarter and a pic of she and her mom on the first day:

"I just finished my first quarter at UCLA and I'm about to start my second one! I’m currently majoring in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology over here and I’ve been having a great time so far.

I’m excited to share that I got accepted into the Tom Carmichael neuroscience lab where I'll be studying cellular responses to biomaterials after stroke. I’ll be starting at the beginning of February. "
