With Hood Mountain's Pythian Road entrance open for the first time since the wildfires, now's the time to visit. The post-fire landscape offers a unique look at both the ferocity of the flames and the resiliency of nature. At upper elevations, blackened trees stand like burnt matchsticks, but among the charred trunks are hints of regrowth. Our latest blog post tells you what to expect when hiking recently reopened trails.

Teams from Volunteers for Outdoor California are coming to Hood Mountain the weekend of May 18-20 to reroute a steep, eroded section of Nattkemper Trail, and you're invited to join the crew. Help for one day or two and camp with your fellow volunteers on the grounds of the historic Hood House.

Embrace the joys of kite flying and sandcastle building at Doran Beach's Castles & Kites this Saturday, May 5. Bring your own kite or buy one from local vendors. Build the sandcastle you've always imagined or watch longtime sand sculptors create elaborate designs. Amateurs and experts welcome!

Celebrate Mother's Day and Mother Earth with a May 13th stroll along the Laguna de Santa Rosa Trail and Meadowlark Field led by naturalists from Regional Parks and the Laguna Foundation. Spend time with mom while learning about the history of this vital watershed and its connections to Sonoma County's plants, animals, and people.

Add a new dimension to your yoga practice by moving it outside. Join our new monthly series,   "People's Yoga Pop Ups,"  with a May 10 class at Ragle Ranch. Take your down dog onto Spring Lake for paddleboard yoga on May 5 and May 18. And grow your tree pose under Shiloh Ranch's might oaks for a  "Nature Heals" gathering on May 20 .

Summer is Near: Sign Up the Kids for Camps
Finalized the kids' summer plans yet? Our lifeguard, surf, and environmental science camps offer fun, adventure, and skills-building at Spring Lake and Doran Beach. New this year is a "Sea Squirts" camp for younger kids. Spots are filling fast, so sign up now. 

Spring Lake's Splash Countdown is On!
The water park at Spring Lake opens May 26
Big summer fun returns to Spring Lake's swimming lagoon when the water park opens on May 26, Memorial Day weekend. Part playground and part obstacle course, the inflatable park is a giant hit with kids of all ages. Also returning this year are season passes that include kayak or stand-up paddleboard rentals on the lake.

It's Almost Time to Get Funky on Fridays
The end of the work week is always better with Funky Fridays, the summertime concert series that benefits parks in the Sonoma Valley. This year's schedule kicks off June 1 with blues guitarist Levi Lloyd at the Hood House below Hood Mountain Regional Park.
