Hiking Hood Mountain, Gunsight Rock after the Fire
Blooms among the burn on Hood Mountain
With Hood Mountain's Pythian Road entrance open for the first time since the wildfires, now's the time to visit. Volunteers for Outdoor California (V-O-Cal) get it done
Teams from Volunteers for Outdoor California are coming to Hood Mountain the weekend of May 18-20 to reroute a steep, eroded section of Nattkemper Trail, and you're invited to join the crew. Help for one day or two and camp with your fellow volunteers on the grounds of the historic Hood House.
Embrace the joys of kite flying and sandcastle building at Doran Beach's Castles & Kites this Saturday, May 5. Bring your own kite or buy one from local vendors. Build the sandcastle you've always imagined or watch longtime sand sculptors create elaborate designs. Amateurs and experts welcome!
Big summer fun returns to Spring Lake's swimming lagoon when the water park opens on May 26, Memorial Day weekend. Part playground and part obstacle course, the inflatable park is a giant hit with kids of all ages. Also returning this year are season passes that include kayak or stand-up paddleboard rentals on the lake.
The end of the work week is always better with Funky Fridays, the summertime concert series that benefits parks in the Sonoma Valley. This year's schedule kicks off June 1 with blues guitarist Levi Lloyd at the Hood House below Hood Mountain Regional Park.
