Lakeside Chautauqua
October 2016
Giving to the Lakeside Fund is Vital
#GivingTuesday , a global day of giving back, is right around the corner. On Tuesday, Nov. 29, Lakeside Chautauqua will partner with #GivingTuesday for the fourth time, and you have a chance to become a part of this movement and support the Lakeside Fund.

Giving an annual gift to the Lakeside Fund is vital. Your generosity supports the Chautauqua program, maintenance of historic buildings and care for the beautiful grounds each year, which is very different than supporting a capital campaign, such as the Pool & Wellness Campaign. Lakeside is a non-profit organization, and we rely on your critical support each year.

Currently, Hoover Auditorium is in need of an updated sound and lighting system, which will be the centerpiece project for this year's #GivingTuesday. Over the next few weeks, we're taking you 'behind the curtain' to show you what it takes to deliver exceptional programming, maintain our historic buildings and care for our beautiful grounds year after year.

To help celebrate #GivingTuesday, you can become a VIP Supporter by giving to the Hoover Auditorium Sound and Lighting Project or to an area of Lakeside that you are passionate about. Gifts of all sizes are deeply valued.
Support Hoover on #GivingTuesday
Every summer, thousands of Lakesiders gather in Hoover Auditorium to see chart-topping musicians, marquee entertainers, inspiring preachers and insightful lecturers take center stage.

To provide a memorable experience, entertainers and artists today are demanding high-quality sound systems and special stage lighting for shows. Historic venues, like Hoover Auditorium, are no strangers to these types of technological requests.

Over the past 10 years, it has become increasingly difficult to book quality acts who will work with Hoover's outdated technology. So, to continue to attract top-notch entertainers, preachers and lecturers to Lakeside, we must upgrade the sound system and stage lighting in Hoover Auditorium. Your support on #GivingTuesday will help with these urgent needs.

Sound & Speakers
First, the center speakers clustered above the stage need to be updated to a state-of-the-art 'line array' configuration. In addition, subwoofers, which are pieced together today, need to be replaced with updated stage subwoofers. Electrical power must be increased for the system upgrade to support the new 'powered' speakers, each of which includes an amplifier.

Electric & Cables
Next, new cabling will need to run from backstage Hoover to the soundboard in the center of the auditorium. Additional cabling needs to be installed onstage for when we rent a second soundboard for larger concerts. Finally, additional onstage monitors used by the performer must be purchased.

Stage Lighting
Elaborate stage lighting continues to be a necessity for all performances, worship services and lectures. LED 'special effect' lighting fixtures must be installed to enhance the ambience of the large venue. All existing stage lights need to be replaced with LED bases and lamps to conserve energy and create consistent stage lighting. To run the lighting, a new console must be purchased. We will also need to install LED lighting fixtures in the lobby to lower the heat and energy usage in the historic building.

To continue to provide you and your family with exceptional concerts, worship services and lectures in 2017 and beyond, we need your help on #GivingTuesday. Consider supporting the Hoover sound and lighting project on Tuesday, Nov. 29 and become a VIP Supporter!
