COMING APRIL 13 @ 12:00 PM
We all know the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child.” But how do we apply this wisdom to our children right here in Georgia? To truly support child well-being, we must look beyond the family unit, to address the societal factors that set families up for success. And we need to do it together — with the help of our friends, neighbors, coworkers, business leaders, and the faith community. Together, we are all invested in a promising future for Georgia. This is a conversation on how we can come together as a village to help children thrive and build a better future for us all.
DEADLINE APRIL 15
GPB’s PBS KIDS Writers Contest encourages Georgia kids in kindergarten through third grade to submit original, illustrated stories for great prizes and a chance to be featured on the GPB website.
Check out gpb.org/writers-contest for rules and entry form.
COMING MAY 11 @ 10 AM
In collaboration with the Georgia Cotton Commission, GPB Education will be live streaming from 1888 Mills manufacturing in Griffin, GA. During the program, students will hear from various experts as they learn about farming cotton, the historical significance of cotton in Georgia, products made from cotton, and the crop's impact on Georgia's economy. This program will be televised on GPB-TV and live streamed on gpb.org/cotton.
NEW FROM GPB EDUCATION
As Georgia educators expand the world for their students, class after class, we think they need a place to share…and learn. We are excited to introduce a new podcast series presented by the Georgia Department of Education and GPB Education. Each episode features teachers who are approaching the curriculum in innovative, impactful ways. Forget talk! This…is teacher talk! Classroom Conversations is available everywhere you listen to podcasts.
SPOTLIGHT ON PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
Math shapes our world in fascinating ways. Mathematical literacy is more than just counting or multiplying or memorizing math facts - it's an empowering tool that enables students to understand and manipulate important factors in their everyday lives. Join GPB Education as we learn more about how to meaningfully engage our students with the thousands of math learning resources and teaching strategies available through GPB Education and PBS LearningMedia.
GRADES 3-8
Use these animated shorts to introduce or review literary elements and techniques like theme, setting, figurative language, characterization, and conflict. Can be used when students are just learning how to identify the most commonly used elements in poetry and literature or when a student needs a quick refresher.
GRADES 9-12
A visit to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta proves to us, and hopefully to our audience, that a simple interest in math and technology can lead to a wide variety of career opportunities. Although we take a fun and loose approach to learning about the Federal Reserve, our Teachable Moments are truly insightful. They include a description of what this institution is and does and a discussion of the gold standard and exactly what gives money its value.
GRADES 3-8
We all want to protect Mother Nature by recycling, but it's important to recycle correctly. In this episode of Things Explained, we explore commonly accepted items for curbside recycled and items that usually end up in the landfill. We also share ways you can help reduce and reuse to cut back on pollution!
GRADES PREK-K
A bilingual, weekly “Learn Along” Bingo packet (one for PreK-K, one for Grades 1 & 2) will include a range of thematic learning opportunities for children to choose their own learning adventure. Emphasis will be on the PBS KIDS 24/7 broadcast schedule and related printables that require minimal supplies or adult facilitation. Weekly activities will be cross-curricular but emphasize Social-Emotional Learning, Math, and Literacy development.
GRADES K-5
Join Chef Asata as she explores a friend's chicken coop. Then learn how to cook different meals using farm fresh eggs!
GRADES 6-12
Odyssey Online South Asia provides students a way to explore the works of art in the collections in depth and gain an understanding of the ways in which similar objects function in religious settings both in India and in Atlanta.
