SIDEWALKS OF SUPPORT - BRIDGEWAY STAFF SPREAD HOPE

Bridgeway Staff Spread Hope During Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind our communities that support is always within reach.

This month, Bridgeway staff helped bring that message outside, quite literally, by participating in Sidewalks of Support, an annual community chalk campaign hosted by R&J Strategic Communications.

The initiative invites organizations and community members to share visible messages of hope, encouragement, healing, and resilience in neighborhoods across New Jersey.

Sometimes showing up looks like a conversation. Sometimes it looks like care delivered in an office, a home, a crisis response, or a community setting. And sometimes, showing up looks like chalk on a sidewalk.

Bridgeway team members used creativity and compassion to spread uplifting messages right where people walk, creating small moments of connection with a big heart. It was a simple but meaningful reminder that mental health advocacy does not only happen inside four walls. It happens wherever people need to feel seen, supported, and reminded that they are not alone.

Thank you to our staff for continuing to advance Bridgeway’s mission with compassion, creativity, and heart during Mental Health Awareness Month and every month.

INGRID MONTGOMERY

A WELCOME THAT MATTERS

At Bridgeway's Mental Health Urgent Care in Hoboken, Ingrid Montgomery Jenkins is the first face you see, and she knows that matters.

Walking into a mental health facility can feel overwhelming. A warm, judgment-free welcome can make all the difference between someone staying or walking away. For Ingrid, showing up for people in that moment is more than just a job.

What keeps her going? A team that shows up for each other the same way.

At Bridgeway, staff collaborate, share resources, and genuinely invest in one another, because our culture of care doesn't stop at the front desk. You don't have to be in crisis to deserve support.

Bridgeway's doors are open - same-day care, judgment-free, for anyone who walks in. Think you might belong on a team like this? Explore opportunities.

FROM CONNECTION TO CALLING - CORRINE'S STORY

Growth rarely happens in a straight line.

Throughout their life, one of the people we serve has navigated their own mental health journey. That experience led them to a group serving patients and clients with mental health needs and that's where they first encountered Bridgeway.

What started as a connection became a calling. For them, this path isn't just about healing. It's an opportunity to define themselves beyond their challenges, to better understand who they are, and to show up for others the way they once needed someone to show up for them.

"You have to give yourself permission to make mistakes," they shared. "That's part of loving yourself through change."

We're honored to be part of stories like this one.

TRUSTEE REFLECTIONS

Men’s Mental Health Month - Why It Matters in New Jersey

By Mark T. Williams, BSN, RN-BC

June is recognized nationally as Men’s Mental Health Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the unique mental health challenges faced by men and encouraging open conversations around emotional well-being. While mental health affects everyone, men are often less likely to seek help due to stigma, social expectations, and cultural pressures that emphasize toughness and self-reliance.

Across the United States, men are significantly more likely to die by suicide than women, and many struggle silently with depression, anxiety, and substance use. These issues make recognition months like June especially important, not only to highlight the problem, but to promote early intervention and normalize help-seeking behavior.
