Sandi Hillermann McDonald, president of Hillermann Nursery and Florist in Washington, Missouri
Dear Friends,

Hope everyone had fun at the fair! The weather was better during the first few days than some fairs in the past. However, the heat returned for the last couple of days. Speaking of weather, right now, we are on the line between abnormally dry and moderate drought on the US drought monitor map. So, let’s hope we can get plenty of rain and improve the rating on that map. Here is a link where you can view the drought map: Remember, many plants, trees and shrubs need supplemental water if we receive less than 1” of rain in a week's time.
If you have had an abundance of summer vegetable and fruit harvests, you can preserve some of those great summer flavors to enjoy at a later time. There is a canning and preserving article below to help. Don’t forget, we have a good selection of canning and preserving items in our Garden Center!
It is time to get started on your fall gardens! We have a great selection of seeds including quick crops and cool season crops. We have also received our first shipment of cool season vegetable plants! Plant some new veggies and extend your growing and harvesting season up until the first hard freeze!
Come see us soon!
