Hope family, We will be collecting items for Salem UMC/Visions of Hope though the winter season. Many of the items they have requested are food, but they also need toiletry items. Some of the items mentioned were:

boxed potatoes

stuffing

alfredo noodles

fruit pie filling

brownie mix

tuna

cream soups

toilet paper

paper towels

deodorant

The black tote in the fellowship hall will be used to collect items. Patty Carpenter will coordinate getting everything to Salem. As always, thank you for your generous hearts of giving.

Out of curiosity, I checked online for the top gifts or toys that kids are asking for this Christmas.

Are you ready? Here are some of them: Disney Princess Enchanted Castle Playset. 4M Frozen II Code Amaze. Melissa and Doug Animal Stamp Set. Kumber Tie-Dye Kit. Nerf Go Kart with Blaster/Darts. Barbie Dreamhouse Playset. PAW Patrol Total Team Rescues. Slime Cra-A-Slimy Creations Fun Kit. Monster Jam Official Megalodon Storm. NEHOPE Walkie Talkies. I really have no idea what most of these toys are.

Here is a good challenge for us. This Christmas, in the midst of gift giving and receiving, let’s not fail to remind ourselves, and those around us, that the greatest gift of all time came to us completely undeserved, the gift of a baby in a manger in the little town of Bethlehem on the other side of the world.

This incredible Gift, the birth of that baby, changed all of human history. If we let him, he can change our lives even today. He offers hope. He offers mercy. He offers another chance at life.

So, this week, in the midst of all the celebrations around us, the lights, the music, the food and festivities, perhaps we can pause for a moment to remember who and what it is really all about: The birth of a baby who changed the world. His name is Jesus. That is the Gospel. That is good news of Christmas!
