April 2026

Dear Friends,

April is National Volunteer Month, and it gives us a special opportunity to celebrate something that makes our days possible: our volunteers. I am especially grateful for the incredible people who give their time, talents, and hearts to make Hope Haven such a joyful place.

Last Friday, we welcomed a wonderful new group at our volunteer training, and it reminded me just how much this ministry continues to grow through the hands of our community. The heart of the action is our Companion Crew, and already this year 27 companions have enjoyed spending the day with our members. Whether it’s getting creative with art projects, testing their wits with “crazy theme” trivia, or diving into the high-energy fun of balloon volleyball, they help ensure every moment is filled with connection and lots of laughter.

Our Breakfast Baristas and Lunch Bunch Chefs have filled our tables (and hearts!) with delicious meals and snacks, always served with warm smiles and kindness. Our Spiritual Warriors visit each morning to ground our program in encouragement and faith, setting a positive tone from the very start.

Music has a unique way of sparking memories and movement, and our musicians bring that gift to us every week, filling Hope Haven with joyful tunes that stay in our heads long after the day is done!

Our volunteers have served 1,177 hours this year alone. That translates to 740 hours of respite for our family caregivers in just four months, giving them vital space to rest, recharge, and breathe. That gift is truly immeasurable.

What makes Hope Haven so special is that volunteering here isn’t just about helping—it’s about belonging. Even our ten members are quick to jump in and lend a hand whenever needed. It’s an incredible reminder that everyone here has something valuable to give.

To our volunteers, caregivers, members, and community: thank you for being part of this team. Hope Haven is built on connection, compassion, and a whole lot of fun—and we’re just getting started!

With gratitude,

Cathy Baxter

APRIL FUN

What a full and joyful April it has been!

We celebrated Easter, the Masters, and the Kentucky Derby. We learned all about the Savannah College of Art and Design Sidewalk Arts Festival thanks to Aranza, and then created our own colorful chalk masterpieces.

We planted more than 40 mini pots for Sunrise Solutions to brighten their day.

And we also had the special opportunity to trailblaze together as Austin Kennedy (aka Mr. Bubble) celebrated the 40th anniversary of hiking the Appalachian Trail with us, sharing stories and memories from the trail.

To top it all off, we ended the month with some of our favorite preschool friends, who transformed into lions, seals, prancing ponies, clowns, and more—bringing the circus right into our room!

Enjoy a little taste of our April fun in the pictures below.
