Dear Friends,
As summer winds down, it feels like the world around us is picking up speed again. Routines return, calendars fill, and we are surrounded by the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I am the first one to get caught up in the whirlwind, but I’m trying to remind myself to pause, take a deep breath, and not let myself be swept away by the urgency of every situation.
That is one of the things I love most about Hope Haven. When we are together, we have a few precious hours to slow down, truly connect, and enjoy one another’s company. There is something incredibly special about being fully present with the people right in front of us. In a world that constantly asks us to hurry, being together without distraction feels like a gift. And somehow, it leaves us feeling energized rather than depleted.
So I wonder... instead of always asking ourselves, “What else do I need to get done?” can we give ourselves permission to ask, “What can I let go of?”
I know that letting go of even one thing can feel impossible, especially for our caregivers, who carry so much on their shoulders. But perhaps we can all slow down, be present, and make a little more room for the things that truly fill us back up, without the guilt we so often put on ourselves.
I’ll try if you will!
With gratitude,
Cathy Baxter
