April 2026

She stopped going to school.

Concepción was 14 when her father brought her to the clinic in Santiago Atitlán.

By then, she hadn’t been in a classroom for two years.

Her vision had gotten so bad, she couldn’t see the board from anywhere in the room.

So she stayed home. Over time, her father watched her change.

The girl who once engaged with the world had grown quiet. Withdrawn.

That day, Dr. Humpherys ran a careful exam and found the cause: severe nearsightedness.

Hope Alliance ordered her custom glasses.

They’ll take weeks to arrive. But he didn’t want her to wait.

He found a pair of repurposed lenses. Not perfect, but close.

He placed them in her hands and asked her to try them on.

She did. What happened next changed everything.

From Guatemala, With Gratitude

Santiago Atitlan is a beautiful, small city on the edge of a volcanic lake in the Guatemalan highlands. It's also a place where access to basic vision care is limited, and where a pair of glasses can change the entire direction of a person's life.

Our team spent a week there in early March, running clinics at Hospitalito Atitlan each day.

The lines were long.

The days were full.

And the moments, like the one with Concepcion, were the kind that stay with you.

Concepcion's story is one we will carry forward. But she was not alone. Dozens of patients walked through those clinic doors that week.

Each of them came hoping someone could help them see.

Because of you, someone could.

Thank You, Park City Rotary!

We'd like to extend a special thank you to the Park City Rotary for their steadfast support of Park City, Summit County, and Hope Alliance. Park City Rotary awarded $50,000 in grants to 10 nonprofit organizations, including Hope Alliance at the end of March.

Thank you for your support!

On March 13, friends of Hope Alliance gathered at Park Meadows Country Club for an evening that brought the mission into focus.

Dr. Beaty shared what it’s actually like to serve in our clinics. Not the highlight reel, but the real experience.

Long days. Physical exhaustion. The weight of it.

And then she said something simple:

“You leave completely exhausted… and somehow, completely filled up at the same time.”

That’s what this work is.Not easy.

But deeply worth it.

It was more than an event. It was a room full of people choosing to be part of something bigger—supporting access to vision care here in Utah and in communities around the world.

To everyone who was part of this evening, and to those who support this work in so many ways: Thank you. It mattered.

Come with us to Uganda!

We partner with Bwindi Community Hospital to bring vision care directly into remote villages—places where access simply doesn’t exist. It’s work that matters in a very real way. Moments where someone sees clearly for the first time. Where a patient steps back into their life. Where you realize how much something as simple as vision can change everything.

And then there’s the reality. Clinic days are long. The work is demanding. Travel is rugged, and locations change daily. This is not a tourist trip. It’s something else.

Traveling with Hope Alliance to Uganda is a deeply authentic experience that brings you face-to-face with beauty, tragedy, and hope. (Sometimes all in the same day.) If you’ve ever felt the pull to do something like this, to step outside your routine and into work that stays with you, this is your invitation.
