A Life Changed in an Instant

A fifth grade boy visited our clinic in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico with his grandmother last month. He was unable to read or write and moved through the room quietly, withdrawn, and with his head down.

Dr. Farrell spent a few minutes chatting with him in Spanish, trying to help him feel at ease. But the boy stayed tense, avoiding eye contact.

When the exam began, the reason for his downcast face and body language became clear.

The boy had an extremely high prescription of plus 12.50 in both eyes. He could not clearly see his own hand, much less letters, numbers, or words on a page. He had made it to fifth grade without ever being able to see the world in front of him.

This was his first eye exam!

When the team placed a pair of glasses close to his prescription on his face, everything changed.

“We watched his face as he smiled, looked up, and looked around the room with absolute awe,” Dr. Farrell said. “Instantly he began to talk.”

His grandmother rushed to his side as he lifted his head and grinned. Hope Alliance had two pairs of glasses that matched his needs, which he received that day. Our team also ordered two brand new pairs so he would always have the vision support he needs.

It was a moment no one in the room will forget.

A child seeing clearly for the very first time.

A grandmother realizing her grandson’s potential had been waiting behind a blurry world.

A reminder of the impact generous supporters make possible every time Hope Alliance travels to communities with limited access to care.

He was one of many children that day who put on glasses for the first time and lit up with joy.

This is why we go.

This is why your support matters.

Thank you for helping us bring sight, confidence, and hope to families who need it most.

A Note on 2025 Charitable Giving & Taxes

As you consider your year-end giving, it's worth noting that several federal tax provisions are scheduled to change after 2025. Under current laws, many Americans benefit from higher deduction thresholds and other incentives that make charitable giving more advantageous this year. These provisions are set to expire in 2026 unless Congress renews them, which may reduce the tax benefit of future charitable donations.

In short: making your gift in 2025 may offer a greater tax advantage than waiting until next year.

Bright Sight Week in Park City Schools

Last week, Hope Alliance staff, doctors and clinic volunteers visited every school in the Park City School District, offering eye exams to students who needed it the most.

76 students received a free comprehensive eye exam

69 students showed a need for glasses and will receive them for free

29 students received an eye exam for the first time

We're honored to give these kids the opportunity for clear sight, leveling the playing field for students who do not have access to vision care.

Your continued partnership allows Hope Alliance to continue this work in Park City schools and, in 2026, schools around the state of Utah with our mobile clinic, Vision Van Go.

Please consider Hope Alliance in your year-end charitable giving.

Together, we can change how someone sees the world.

Three tax-efficient ways to make impactful year-end charitable gifts:

  • Make a Qualified Charitable Distribution gift
  • Donate appreciated securities
  • Contribute to a donor-advised fund
