She was seven years old. And she had never seen clearly.

On the last day of a Hope Alliance clinic in Mexico, Dr. Beaty met a young girl whose world blurred beyond 14 inches from her face. She had never owned glasses. Never been prescribed them.

Prescription lenses would take four to six weeks to arrive.

So Dr. Beaty did something unexpected. She searched through a small grab bag of donated frames and found a pair that might work. They happened to be Coco Chanels.

When she put them on, the little girl froze. Then she started crying. Then she ran over and hugged Dr. Beaty so tightly she wouldn’t let go. “And then I was crying,” Dr. Beaty said. That moment is just one of many she’s experienced serving with Hope Alliance.

On March 13 at Sunnies for Sight, Dr. Beaty will share more stories like this. Stories of long clinic days, exhausted doctors, and life-changing clarity.

Serve Where Sight Changes Everything

We partner with Bwindi Community Hospital to bring pop-up vision clinics to remote villages where care is otherwise unavailable.

Clinic days are long and demanding. Travel is rugged. Locations change daily. This is not a tourist trip. It is a deeply authentic experience that brings you face-to-face with beauty, tragedy, and hope.

New Study Suggests Eye Drops May Improve Near Vision

Scientists recently shared exciting research showing that a new combination of eye drops could help people read without glasses. In a large study of adults with age-related near-vision loss (also called presbyopia), people who used these drops read noticeably more lines on a vision chart within an hour, and those results lasted for up to two years. Most didn’t have major side effects, and many could see closer up without relying on reading glasses.

This isn’t ready to replace glasses yet, but it represents a promising new direction in vision care that could someday expand options for patients around the world. Find the full Science Daily article here.
