Hope Weekly
September 14, 2018
One of my favorite Scriptures is found in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. You may remember the concluding verse: "A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." It speaks of the wisdom of doing life and faith in partnership with others. When life gets difficult (and we all know it does), your shared experience and study will enable you to lean on the strength of each other's faith. Doing life and faith with others, challenges us with new ways of thinking and perspectives we otherwise would have never considered.

This Sunday, we kick off our program year with Rally Day. There are opportunities for people of all ages to "do life and faith together".   In addition to Sunday morning options, the Thursday morning Bible study starts at 7:00 am this week and Lunches with Luther kicked off a few days ago.

Finally, I know you will want to join us Sunday at the end of the 9:00 worship as we pray over the kids as they begin their new year of DIT.  Many will receive new Bibles too!
In Christ,
Rally Day September 16th
Join us for Rally Day on September 16 as we begin a new year for Spiritual Formation and Christian Education for all ages during the 10 o'clock hour. We will be commissioning leaders during the 9am worship service that day.
Disciples in Training (DIT) is for children ages 3 - 6th grade from 10am - 10:50am in the downstairs classrooms. This year our theme is "Finding Jesus." Come and join us as we explore the Bible to search for more about who Jesus is and what that means for us. Friends, new and old, are always welcome!
Think. Believe. Do. (TBD) is our new youth discussion for 7th grade - high school from 10:10 - 10:50 in the Confirmation room upstairs. We'll unpacking Bible stories and discipleship to understand and to equip youth so their faith can grow with them.
Adult Spiritual Formation groups are open to everyone and meet in various rooms from 10:10-10:50. Grab a cup of coffee and join in the conversation.
Wired Word meets in the library to discuss current events in a Scriptural framework and how Scripture provides guidance for daily life.
The Men's Group meets in the Upper Room and will begin with the Dialogues Series on Refugees.
The Women's Group meets in the Chapel of Grace and will begin a Bible study called "Looking for Lovely, Collecting the Moments that Matter" by Annie Downs. Please bring your Bible.

Bible Presentation
On September 16 at both worship services, we will be presenting Bibles to all 3 & 4 year olds as they start Disciples in Training for the first time. We will also be presenting Bibles to 7th graders who are beginning Confirmation. If someone in your family should be receiving a Bible, please contact Pastor Kristin, pastorkristin@hopetoledo.net. to confirm how you would like the name to appear.
Invite a friend & neighbor
On Sunday September 16th we will kick of DIT and Adult Spiritual Formation.  We will have invitations for members to use to invite others to come and experience Hope's welcome and music.
Reading Mentors
Mentors are needed to help 1st & 2nd graders at Old Orchard. The mentor program at Old Orchard helps struggling 1st and 2nd grade students who are identified by their teachers as needing assistance with reading. Work as little as an hour a week. Contact Miriam Wilson at 419-535-0255.
Backpacks of Hope
We will once again be providing backpacks for food for 18 students at Old Orchard Elementary to take home and have healthy meals and snacks for the weekend. As the year gets started, we need to restock our pantry shelves. We are in need of peanut butter (no larger than 16 oz), cans of tuna, cans of spaghettios or baked beans, fruit or applesauce cups, or Easy Mac. Donations can be placed on the white shelves across from the family lounge.
