Hope Weekly
May 29, 2020

Last week I had the joy of participating in the Festival of Homiletics from my home office. I look forward to this continuing education each year for both the preaching and the worship. The preaching and the lectures spoke to me as a preacher in this time and I give thanks that the event moved online rather than simply being cancelled. I will admit that I really missed the worship in person experience as I know that many of you miss in this time as well.

This week my good news that I am excited to share is that we have confirmed that the revised plans and blueprints for the Hope for Salem project have been received by the City of Toledo. We are now ready to move forward with this great project.

On Saturday, June 20th we will having our first workday to clean up and demo in preparation for the renovation. Recognizing the need to be careful with distancing and with personal protective equipment we are planning two blocks of time with up to 10 people working each time. One crew will work from 9-Noon and a second group from 1-4 PM. We will have masks, gloves and eye protection as well as sanitizer.

If you are ready to get out of your home and be active this is your chance. There are opportunities for all skill levels.

To sign up, you can go here for the 9:00 am -12:00 pm time slot

We will contact you as the time approaches with suggestions for clothing and tools that will be needed and details about where to park and gather.

If you are not able to participate that day or if you are in a vulnerable population category you can still participate by praying that day for all who will be working on the Hope for Salem House.

Here are the links for online worship. We look forward to "seeing" you then.

Seeds for Salem
Pastor Mike and the Salem community have been working on vegetable garden to provide more fresh vegetables to the community. We now want to help them share the opportunity with the community. Thrivent has provided an action grant to purchase containers and potting soil. We are hoping that Hope members might have some seeds left over from their gardening efforts that can be shared in early June with those Salem serves. Seeds can be dropped off at Hope using social distancing. Thank you.
Card Shower for Ron Wuwert
Our friend and long time Hope member, Ron Wuwert has just moved into his new place at Genacross.  Will you join us in sending a "Thinking of You" card to show your love.  Ron's address is:

Vacation Bible School is Now
At-home and Online,  June 22-26!
Due to ongoing public health concerns, we have decided to move Vacation Bible school to an at-home online format for this summer. The dates will be June 22-26 from 9:00am - 12:00pm. There will be an online opening and closing video and storytelling via Zoom. Plus, everyone who registers by June 8 will get a VBS at-home bag with craft projects, science experiments, service projects and supplies plus added family activities and DIY snack ideas. So register now to join in the fun at hopetoledo.net !

You might have also noticed a change in our VBS theme. We were all excited for Knights of the North. With the change in formats, we would have missed too much and decided to save Knights of the North for next year. However, we are keeping a royal theme this year with God's Kingdom Come! Get ready to meet a brave queen, a few kings trying to figure it out, and finally Christ the King.

Children's Faith Formation Resources

While we are not meeting at church for DIT and Toddler and Tots, weekly faith formation resources are being emailed out to families. If you are not receiving it and would like it please contact the office and ask to be added to the list. Additionally, if you would rather get a paper copy rather than an email please let us know.

FISH: "Friends in Sickness  and in Health"
FISH is for Hope members who need assistance with simple projects outdoors or indoors, raking, painting, reading or just conversation. During this pandemic, perhaps your need is just an errand and front-porch drop off. This ministry is   available year round but we wanted to draw special attention to it now. Please call the church office if you need assistance or if you'd like to volunteer.
