HOPE IN THE
TIME OF CHEMO

a book by writer/actor
David Lee Nelson
author of the solo autobiographical play STAGES

At 38 years old, David Lee Nelson was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. He kept a blog of his time in chemotherapy – a heartbreakingly funny chronicle of a disease which affects over nine million Americans. This material became the basis for his solo play, Stages , which he performed several years ago at the Zucker School of Medicine. David has recently written a book based on his blogs and will return to the ZSOM via Zoom to share it with us. David's story is not just about sickness: it’s a story of life’s setbacks and surprises, and about searching for hope in the most unlikely of places.
"His work has always been brutally and often hilariously honest, and inevitably presented with a gratis side of hit ya in the feels. A+" - Charleston City Paper
Following the reading, David will be available for a discussion/Q&A along with David Elkowitz , DO , Associate Dean and Director of the Academy of Medical Educators, Associate Professor of Science Education and Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Dr. Elkowitz will share his own formulas for keeping hope during his own difficult battle with cancer.
