City of Hopewell Communications | Wednesday, October 14, 2026 | | Hopewell's Stacey Jordan Named Deputy City Manager of the Year | | |
The City of Hopewell is proud to recognize Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Officer Stacey Jordan, who has been named Deputy City Manager of the Year for 2026 by Gov Business Review. The publication features her work to strengthen Hopewell’s financial operations, advance transparency and accountability, and support the City’s long-term financial stability.
Since joining Hopewell in 2024, Jordan has played a central role in completing outstanding audits, improving financial reporting, and establishing consistent processes across City departments. Working alongside City staff and external partners, she has helped move the City’s financial recovery efforts forward while building practices that support continued progress.
For residents, this work reaches beyond budgets and financial statements. Reliable financial information helps the City plan for infrastructure needs, manage public resources, and make informed decisions about the services the community depends on. Clear procedures also help departments coordinate purchases, monitor grants, and understand the financial requirements of their projects.
Jordan brings more than two decades of experience in accounting and financial leadership across the private and public sectors. Gov Business Review’s coverage explores how that experience shapes her approach to municipal government, with an emphasis on accuracy, clear communication, and connecting financial decisions to community needs.
A key theme of the feature is the importance of collaboration between finance and the departments responsible for delivering services. Jordan’s work has focused on strengthening those connections, helping staff navigate financial processes, and encouraging departments to consider costs and long-term obligations early in their planning.
The publication also highlights her commitment to rebuilding confidence through consistent reporting and open communication. These practices help City leadership, staff, auditors, and the public better understand the City’s financial position and the work underway to strengthen it.
This recognition offers an opportunity to celebrate Jordan’s contributions and the continued efforts of the staff and partners supporting Hopewell’s financial progress. The City congratulates Ms. Jordan on this honor and thanks her for her dedication to serving our community.
| Good Ship Brewing & Eatery Earns Best New Restaurant Honor | |
Downtown Hopewell has another reason to celebrate! Good Ship Brewing & Eatery has been named Best New Restaurant at the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging & Travel Association’s Ordinary Awards, bringing recognition to a local business and the community it calls home.
The award marks an exciting milestone for owners Donnie and Mariah Barber and the entire Good Ship team. Their hard work, vision, and commitment to hospitality have helped create a dining experience that has earned recognition beyond Hopewell.
For the City, Good Ship’s success also highlights the contributions local businesses make to downtown. Restaurants and gathering places bring people together, give visitors a reason to explore, and contribute to the activity that supports neighboring businesses. Behind each is a team investing time, energy, and resources into our community.
Good Ship has also welcomed opportunities to connect Hopewell’s business community, including hosting one of the City’s Business Resource Meetings earlier this year. That gathering brought local businesses and partners together to share information, build relationships, and learn about available resources.
The City of Hopewell congratulates Donnie, Mariah, and the entire Good Ship team on this achievement. We look forward to their continued success and encourage residents and visitors to join us in celebrating this award-winning downtown business!

| | | Hopewell Football Winsn its Fourth in a Row, Takes Down Dinwiddie 47-14 | | |
By Jeff Butler
We have to go back to 2019 to see the last Hopewell football victory over Dinwiddie. It was Hopewell's 15-0 State Championship year when Tre Henderson was the spark plug. But in the last 6 years, Dinwiddie has won each game by a combined score of 216-83, and leads the overall series 15-5.
So what do we make of this year's 47-14 Hopewell victory? It was the Blue Devil's fourth win in a row, and they entered the game averaging around 260 rushing yards per game. In this game, they rushed for 426 yards and did it without the services of leading ground gainer Antonio Monroe (138 yards per game) who missed because of a knee injury. 234 of those rushing yards belonged to Freshman Quarterback Arking Holloway, who also went 11-21 passing for 95 additional yards.
| | | National Night Out Brings Hopewell's Community Together | | |
Hopewell residents, neighborhood watch groups, and community partners came together on October 6 for National Night Out 2026, an evening focused on building relationships and strengthening community connections.
The event gave residents an opportunity to meet one another and connect with outreach organizations offering information, resources, and entertainment. Those conversations help neighbors become more familiar with the people and services available to support them while encouraging continued involvement in their community.
Hopewell’s neighborhood watch groups played a major role in planning and carrying out the event. Their contributions helped bring residents and partners together and reflected the value of neighbors taking an active role in the safety and well-being of their neighborhoods.
The City thanks the neighborhood watch groups, Hopewell Police Department, participating organizations, and everyone who helped make the evening possible. Most of all, thank you to the residents who attended and made National Night Out a celebration of community.
Organizers are already looking ahead to next year’s event. In the meantime, photographs captured by The Smile Experience offer a chance to revisit the connections and memories made this year.
| | Hopewell City Council will next meet at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. The meeting can be viewed live online and all agendas/recordings of previous meetings are archived. | | | Hopewell Recreation and Parks Fall Activity Guide is here!
