During our 25th Anniversary year we took a look back at all of the amazing weeks of summer camp that we have spent together! Horizon Highlight: Megan Chan
Megan Chan first heard about Horizon through a presentation at Lincoln Park High School. "I decided to give it a chance because it sounded fun and I also needed community service hours." This past summer was Megan's fifth year at camp and her first year as a Team Leader.
Volunteering at 007
During the year, Megan helps out by volunteering at fundraisers. She volunteered at last year's 007 event and this year's A Wicked Affair. "Not only were both events fun, but it also felt amazing to see the guests donate to something that means so much to me and many people in my life." Megan also joined the Camp Activities Committee this year. "I'm looking forward to seeing how everything comes together for the week of camp."
Outside of Horizon, Megan works at the Trinity Hospital Emergency Department as a medical scribe. "I see a lot of crazy things, so it's never a boring day at work." She is also a huge foodie and loves traveling. In the near future, she hopes to visit New Orleans, Portland, Tokyo, Barcelona, and Mykonos.
Summer Camp Recruitment
The RecruitmentCommittee is looking for volunteers to be part of our camp health team. If you know of a place that we can recruit nurses and doctors to volunteer at camp, please contact us. We are also updating our database of school contacts as we start our hunt for over 150 volunteers for 2017. Please contact Karlyn if you have a school or an organization where we can send volunteer materials.
Fun Events are on the Horizon!
We are striving to hold more monthly events. More opportunities to see all of your friends in a fun yet affordable setting. What's not to love! If you have any ideas of an event please let us know!
Turn In Your Year Long Raffle Tickets
Start turning in your sold ticket stubs with checks or money orders payable to "Association of Horizon" in the addressed envelope that came with your tickets by December 31st. Please include any unsold tickets. If you need more contact the Raffle Committee. For every 25 tickets you sell, your name will be included in a drawing for a Horizon merchandise item. Tickets are $5 each with 80 chances to win a cash prize during 2017. The first drawing is January 7th. For questions contact the Raffle Committee.
Grilling For Horizon at bd's Mongolian Grill
Join us on Thursday, December 29th at bd's Mongolian Grill in Bolingbrook and help raise money for camp. Just tell your server that you're there to support Horizon, and $3 of your bill will be donated to Horizon.
We're also looking for guest grillers, so if you'd like to cook while telling guests about Horizon, we're looking for you! Please contact Michael for details.
