- February 2017 Newsletter -

This year our camp theme is Disney.
Just like Disney, Horizon Camp is
the most wonderful place on
earth. Horizon may even
transform your cabin into
a Disney castle. There are just
166 days left until camp, where
you can be part of
some Disney magic.

Horizon Highlight: Dave Davis
Dave Davis was first introduced to Horizon at the Chicago Volunteer Expo this past spring where he met Anna Lopez and Sheila Caplis. They emphasized the need for male volunteers, so Dave decided to attend camp. Before camp even started, Dave began volunteering for Horizon. He volunteered at the Golf Outing and met several people who helped him gain a better understanding of camp and what it means to everyone who attends.

In addition to all the great activities, Dave's favorite part of camp was making new friends. He makes an effort to keep in touch with his camper, Tim Beard, and other friends throughout the year. Dave has also joined the Recruitment, Camp, and Golf Outing Committees and will be attending the 2017 Volunteer Expo to help recruit more new volunteers.
Dave has not had a car since 1999, but has recently renewed his affinity for motorcycling. He has rode his motorcycle to Colorado, St Louis, West Virginia, and, of course, to camp this summer. He has many more trips planned for 2017. About six years ago, he became part owner of a cigar shop in Dallas with his brother. This business has allowed him to travel to many exciting places, including Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.
