Horizon Highlight: John Walsh
Like many other long-time volunteers, John Walsh got involved with Horizon after the MDA adult summer camp program ended. John had been volunteering for MDA since 1971 so he decided to join his friends and continue volunteering with Horizon. This summer will be John's 25th year attending Horizon's summer camp.
John's favorite activities at camp are canoes and the pool, where you'll find him most afternoons. John enjoys spending time with people at camp and is very pleased when he sees first-time volunteers return. "I marvel at how the Horizon organization puts such an eclectic group of people together for 6 days of fun. For me, it's heaven on earth for too short a week."

Mark Rozdolsky and John Walsh
Outside of Horizon, John lives in Crystal Lake with his wife, Linda. Recently, John's daughter gave birth to their first grandchild. He has worked in media ad sales for his entire career, the past 20 years at the Chicago Tribune. For fun, John enjoys competing in triathlons.
How You Can Help Horizon
As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary, we'd like to look back on some of our favorite fundraisers that helped us get started. Some of those include- organize a garage sale, run a car wash, host a house party and have a raffle/split the pot during the event, have a bake sale at your school, and set up a fundraiser at a restaurant that will donate part of the proceeds to Horizon. We'd love to hear your ideas too! Contact Kathy for more information.
Horizon Hope Deadline Approaching
Last year, as I reflected and wrote my Horizon Hope Grant essay, I was filled with renewed passion for the Association of Horizon community. Have you also been inspired by Horizon? Could you benefit from financial support for your school studies or for your medical equipment? Submit a Hope Grant essay! The person who receives this grant is being rewarded for the good that they see in Horizon and for their desire to live out that same mission and vision. Give others the privilege of reading your story this year! It could come back to be a double blessing to you if you win the grant! Applications can be downloaded from the Horizon website.
