Meet Our Elementary Student Advisor
|
|
My name is Kelly Maguire, best known to students as "Mrs. K." I am the Elementary Student Advisor and this will be my twenty third year at Horizon Honors. After graduating from ASU I was a classroom teacher for five years and then was offered an opportunity to support all of our students as a Student Advisor. My roles include being a 504 Coordinator, Student Council and No Place For Hate Co-Advisor, Student Ambassador Advisor, assisting with problem solving with students, teachers and families; and my favorite role is being in the classroom with students. Each quarter my goal is to visit every classroom to share lessons on a variety of social emotional topics. I read books, facilitate discussions, role play with the students, and we engage in projects that help build resiliency, practicing respectful problem solving skills, grow empathy, and continue to develop social emotional intelligence.
Horizon Honors has become my family and each year I have the privilege of observing the growth of our students, celebrating our students returning to become staff members, and to have former students now bring their children to our school. I also have a fourteen year old that has been able to come to school with me since she was seven weeks old and we both consider this our second home. I am honored to be part of this community!

Meet Our Elementary School Counselor
|
|
Hi! My name is Andrea Dinardo and I am so happy to serve at Horizon Honors as the Elementary School Counselor. It is my pleasure and absolute privilege to help support your students with their “big” feelings! I am so excited for this school year! I have been counseling children and families for 30 years now and I love what I do! I provide 1:1 emotional support and also facilitate student mental health support groups here at Horizon! This school year will be filled with FUN, lots of learning and new adventures!
I received both my Bachelor’s & Master’s Degree from ASU! I am certified in both school counseling & social work and also as a Certified Grief Professional with a specialization in children’s trauma. I have experience working in crisis mobile teams/first response, with victims of child abuse/domestic violence/DCS/Foster care, eating disorders, self-harm/suicide prevention, and grief/loss.
I am a board member of the Leukemia Foundation for Arizona’s Children,
facilitate a Pediatric Oncology Caregiver Support Group at Children’s Cancer Network and volunteer as a GriefShare Leader at my church. Mr. Dinardo (yes the PE teacher!) and I are proud parents of 3 wonderful children (one who teaches on the secondary side!) and an even prouder grandparents of 2 precious boys (yes, they go here too!) I love all things Disney, dolphins, football, movies, popcorn and tacos!!
I see my role here as Elementary School Counselor as an encouraging presence, a safe and non-judgemental space to share, and a fierce and compassionate advocate (Self-Care!!) for all members of the Horizon Honors community!
Recognizing, processing and normalizing powerful feelings with staff, students and parents is key in building a successful year.
Thank you for the opportunity to encourage, embrace and empower these amazing students! I am ever so grateful.

Art Masterpiece is a national art enrichment program that uses reproductions of fine works of art to promote art literacy in children. Various artists are presented during the year to each classroom followed by a hands-on art project.
The Horizon Honors Elementary Art Masterpiece program is run by volunteers. No art knowledge or experience is needed or required to present or help with the classes. All projects are pre-planned and all art materials are provided. Most of the class time is spent with the children working on their art piece. All help is welcome. No experience necessary!
