Horizon Honors 6th grader, Tayva T., received the Chief Antonio Azul Scholar Award on May 3rd. The Tribal Education Department announced the 2024 Chief Azul Scholar Award which recognizes educational achievements, academic excellence and leadership. This award recognizes individual student scholars and provides motivation for Gila River Students to aspire to reach higher academic goals. Tayva had to meet the following criteria to be selected for this prestigious award:
• Excellent attendance record (Minimum 85%) with no behavior referrals.
• Consistent performance and demonstrates high academic engagement with a strong academic record.
• Demonstrates desire and ability to overcome barriers and achieve their goals. • Individual determination to succeed; self-motivated in completing challenging coursework.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and/or interest in the GRIC culture.
• Documented record of participation in extracurricular activities, volunteer/ community service.
Tayva was honored at this event along with other winners from grade 4th -12th and college undergraduates. Tayva is a role model leader at Horizon, a soccer and basketball player, Girl Scout and has participated in community service events.
