Horizon Honors 6th grader, Tayva T., received the Chief Antonio Azul Scholar Award on May 3rd. The Tribal Education Department announced the 2024 Chief Azul Scholar Award which recognizes educational achievements, academic excellence and leadership. This award recognizes individual student scholars and provides motivation for Gila River Students to aspire to reach higher academic goals. Tayva had to meet the following criteria to be selected for this prestigious award: 


• Excellent attendance record (Minimum 85%) with no behavior referrals. 

• Consistent performance and demonstrates high academic engagement with a strong academic record. 

• Demonstrates desire and ability to overcome barriers and achieve their goals. • Individual determination to succeed; self-motivated in completing challenging coursework. 

• Demonstrates knowledge of and/or interest in the GRIC culture. 

• Documented record of participation in extracurricular activities, volunteer/ community service.


Tayva was honored at this event along with other winners from grade 4th -12th and college undergraduates. Tayva is a role model leader at Horizon, a soccer and basketball player, Girl Scout and has participated in community service events.

We appreciate all for the amazing support of all of the Book Fairs this year! We were able to help teachers build their classroom libraries and purchase MANY new books in the school Library! We are so grateful for all of the volunteers who have helped out throughout the school year!

  • Designed for all (boys/girls) beginner/intermediate volleyball players in grades 5th-6th to improve on all the skills of volleyball and have fun. T-shirt provided. $50

  • Designed for all prospective (boys/girls) volleyball players in grades 9th-12th to improve on advanced skills of volleyball, positional skills, team techniques and have fun, and prepare for tryouts. T-shirt provided. $50

GRADES K-11 SCHOOL PICTURES: FINAL CHANCE!


The last day to order late package prints from the 2023-2024 school year is Saturday, May 18.The prints will be mailed to your home for a $7 shipping fee. Digital download orders can be ordered through June 30, 2024.  All images will be purged on July 1, 2024, and will no longer be available for purchase. If you have any challenges accessing your child’s shoot key, please email customerservice@schoolpicsaz.com. Include your child’s school, name, and teacher, and they will reply back with the key. Do NOT call the school with questions regarding school pictures.

ATTENTION 6TH GRADERS


It is almost time to verify your courses for next school year.  Next week you will receive a list of courses that you’ve been scheduled into for 7th grade.  Remember, this is only a LIST OF COURSES, NOT YOUR ACTUAL SCHEDULE. Actual schedules will come available on your parents’ PowerSchool account over the summer, and hard copy schedules can be picked up at the Open House on Friday before the first day of school. Once you receive your list, check to be sure the core courses are correct and that you received electives that you ranked.  Then you need to sign on the form in the space(s) that apply to you and return the form to your first block teacher by Friday, May 17th.  Please reach out to Mrs. Lovell with questions.  sara.lovell@horizonhonors.org
