COMMUNITY BUILDING COUNCIL: THANK YOU!

We are so grateful for the incredible support you’ve shown our Community Building Council this year! From our Family Restaurant Nights, Parents Night Out Events, Fall Into Fun, VIP & Me & the Soaring For Success Auction, your participation has made a meaningful impact on our community.

Every time you showed up, volunteered, shared a meal, or supported an event, you helped us create more opportunities for our students and teachers. Because of you, we are able to give back to our school in ways that truly make a difference.

We’re excited to reinvest these funds into our classrooms, student experiences, and community building efforts. All of which help make Horizon an even better place for our kids to learn and grow. We couldn’t do this without you! Stay tuned for all the exciting things ahead!

TRAFFIC SAFETY REMINDERS

The safety of our students, staff, and families is our number one priority. Recently, we have had several close calls involving crossing guards and students nearly being struck by vehicles in the interior parking lot. We need everyone’s full cooperation and diligence to ensure a safe environment.

Please review and follow these important guidelines:

  • Stay alert at all times. Watch for crossing guards and students.

  • No phones or distractions while driving on campus.

  • Do not speed. Slow down and proceed with caution.

  • Loading zones are for quick drop-offs only. If you need more time or conversation, please use the Mountain Park parking lot.

  • Pull all the way forward in the drop-off lane to keep traffic flowing safely.

  • Guest parking spots are for school office business only during drop-off and pick-up times. These are not to be used for parking and walking students to campus. This creates a serious safety hazard during peak times.

  • Permit parking spots are strictly for permitted vehicles only.

  • If you plan to park and walk your student, please use the Mountain Park lot and designated crosswalks.

We appreciate your immediate attention to this matter and your commitment to keeping our campus safe for everyone.

MOUNTAIN PARK CHURCH REMINDERS

Parking & Drop-Off/Pick-Up

Horizon Honors families may only use the east side of the Mountain Park Church parking lot for parking, drop-off, and pick-up. Vehicles may enter and exit from either 48th Street or Frye Road. (FYI: Entrances and parking spots may be blocked or closed when Mountain Park Church is hosting events)

After-School Pick-Up

The parking lot is intended for quick pick-ups only. As the church campus is unsupervised, students are NOT to be on church property for extended periods.

  • Secondary students may wait in the supervised High School Courtyard until 4:00 p.m.
  • Elementary students must be enrolled in Club Horizon or a supervised after-school club or activity if they need to remain on campus.

Student Drivers

Student drivers must park on the east side of the church lot. Students are not permitted to park in the Horizon Honors lot.

Be a Good Neighbor

We ask all Horizon Honors community members to:

  • Respect Mountain Park Church property
  • Properly dispose of trash
  • Model courteous and respectful behavior at all times

Reminder

Horizon Honors Code of Conduct applies to student behavior at Mountain Park Church. Students are liable for any damages caused at Mountain Park Church

Thank you for your partnership in helping us maintain a safe, respectful, and positive shared space with Mountain Park Church.

PASSING DOWN HOBBIES: A DIFFERENT KIND OF FAMILY HEIRLOOM

When was the last time you talked with your kids about the hobbies you had growing up? Or, better yet, pull out proof of the hobbies you had when you were their age?

Summer is a fine time to spend some hang time on a hobby. After all, offline hobbies are a wonderful antidote to summer screen time saturation.

Maybe your child does not have any hobbies right now and is not jumping up and down to have one. Exposing kids to different things in life is one of our main jobs/privileges as parents. The same goes for exposing them to potential hobbies to see which captures their interest.

In today’s blog I talk more about the value of hobbies, and share ideas for how to bring this up with your kids.
